    , Article Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects ; Volume 556 , 2018 , Pages 93-98 ; 09277757 (ISSN) Pasdar, M ; Kazemzadeh, E ; Kamari, E ; Ghazanfari, M. H ; Soleymani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
Colloidal gas aphron (CGA) based fluids have recently been introduced to develop depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs due to their ability in controlling fluid losses. Bubbles size of CGAs plays an important role in pore blockage ability as the controlling mechanism in fluid invasion reduction. However, fundamental understanding of how bubble size distribution is controlled by polymer and surfactant concentrations is not well discussed in the available literature. Almost all reported experiences on CGAs sizing were conducted on single bubble behavior, and little attention has been given to the variation of bubble size distribution (BSD) of CGAs at different levels of polymer/surfactant...

    Abstract
Pulsating heat pipes are cooling devices that are partially filled with working fluid. Working fluid thermophysical properties affect the thermal performance of pulsating heat pipes. In this research, the effect of adding a Triton X-100 surfactant to pure water and using the mixture as a working fluid is investigated experimentally. The results indicate that adding surfactant leads to improvement in the thermal performance of the pulsating heat pipe. In particular, the maximum of the thermal resistance improvement is about 61%, which is attributed to 0.01% surfactant concentration. Higher heat transfer ability is attributed to lower surface tension and the contact angle of the mixture...

    , Article Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering ; Volume 96, Issue 6 , 2018 , Pages 1396-1402 ; 00084034 (ISSN) Lashkarbolooki, M ; Ayatollahi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Wiley-Liss Inc  2018
    Abstract
The interfacial properties of crude oil are highly complex and are not yet well understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of temperature (30–80 °C) and pressure (3.44–27.58 MPa) on the dynamic interfacial tension (IFT) of crude oil/aqueous solutions consisting of 15 000 ppm of salt containing different chloride anions, e.g. NaCl, KCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2. To reach this goal, several parameters, such as dynamic and equilibrium IFT, adsorption time, diffusivity of resin, and asphaltene as surface-active agents from bulk of crude oil towards fluid/fluid interface and surface excess concentration of them at the interface, were compared as a function of temperature, pressure, and ion type....

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 256 , 2018 , Pages 277-285 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Hajibagheri, F ; Hashemi, A ; Lashkarbolooki, M ; Ayatollahi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
In the current study, a novel approach which takes into account the effectiveness of both convectional surfactants and biosurfactants was investigated. The biosurfactant produced by Enterobacter cloacae strain was utilized concomitant with conventional surfactant (sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS)) to evaluate its capability to reduce the SDBS adsorption on rock surface (biosurfactant acts as sacrificial agent) or synergistically enhance the effectiveness of the SDBS. In this regard, the wettability alteration and interfacial tension (IFT) measurements and calculation of spreading coefficient were performed considering two different scenarios. In the first scenario, SDBS was added to...

    Springer Verlag  2018
    Abstract
Asphaltene precipitation is known to be responsible for serious challenges in oil industry such as wellbore damage, oil flow reduction, and plugging of transportation lines. The traditional methods to remove asphaltene deposition are mostly based on chemical solvent. One of the recent proposed green and cost–effect remedial methods is the application of microorganisms capable of consuming the heavy hydrocarbon chains. The cell surface hydrophobicity among others effectively manipulates the efficiency of the microorganism for asphaltene degradation. Besides, surface active agents would affect the microorganism adhesion and cell surface properties, and alters its hydrophobicity. Investigating...

    Abstract
We have fabricated and characterised colloidal silver nanoparticles by the electrical arc discharge method in DI water. Size and optical properties of the silver nanoparticles were studied versus different arc currents. Optical absorption indicates a plasmonic peak at 392 nm for 10 A which increases to 398 nm for 20 A arc current. This reveals that by raising the arc current the size of the nanoparticles increases. Optical absorption of silver nanoparticles after 3 weeks shows precipitation of them in a water medium. The effect of different surfactant and stabilizer concentrations such as cethyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), sodium citrate, sodium dodecyl...

    Abstract
In this report the wetting behaviour between polycrystalline alumina substrates and molten aluminium doped with magnesium as a wetting agent has been studied using the sessile drop technique. The time required for equilibrium attainment is investigated. To explore the formation of possible phases at the interface, electron microscopic studies along with EDX analysis have been employed. It is found that magnesium reduces the time and temperature required for equilibrium in the Al/Al2O3 system. The Al-7 wt% Mg and Al-10 wt% Mg alloys can wet alumina at temperatures as low as 900 °C. It is also found that molten aluminium doped with magnesium can wet polycrystalline alumina at temperatures...

    Abstract
Scalable coating methods have recently emerged as practical alternative deposition techniques to the conventional spin-coating despite their lower yielding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). The most important barrier acting against the use of scalable deposition methods to get a highly absorbing (>95%) film with controlled morphology in the high crystallinity of perovskite particles is the impossibility of antisolvent dripping during the deposition. Here, we demonstrate the positive role of both the surfactant-engineering and the vacuum-annealing (<100 Pa) process in improving the device performance to overcome this limit. A detailed optimization of the vacuum-assisted meniscus printing...

    Abstract
Despite previous researches on ion-engineered waterflooding (IEWF), its underlying mechanisms are not fully understood, particularly in presence of additives, like surfactants. This paper concerned with the contribution of Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , SO 4 2- and Na + into altering wettability of oil-wet carbonate minerals towards water preferred state. As a mechanistic study, an experiment workflow was conducted to probe the impact of ions' concentrations in SW, either with or without sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) which is an anionic surfactant. At first, contact angle (CA) measurement was carried out to evaluate the degree of wettability reversal upon treating the oil-aged calcite slabs with...
