A note on isometries of Lipschitz spaces

    , Article Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications ; Vol. 411, Issue. 2 , 2014 , Pages 555-558 ; ISSN: 0022247X Ranjbar Motlagh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The main purpose of this article is to generalize a recent result about isometries of Lipschitz spaces. Botelho, Fleming and Jamison [2] described surjective linear isometries between vector-valued Lipschitz spaces under certain conditions. In this article, we extend the main result of [2] by removing the quasi-sub-reflexivity condition from Banach spaces

Natural explanation for 130 GeV photon line within vector boson dark matter model

    , Article Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics ; Volume 724, Issue 1-3 , 2013 , Pages 84-87 ; 03702693 (ISSN) Farzan, Y ; Akbarieh, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We present a dark matter model for explaining the observed 130 GeV photon line from the galaxy center. The dark matter candidate is a vector boson of mass mV with a dimensionless coupling to the photon and Z boson. The model predicts a double line photon spectrum at energies equal to mV and mV(1-mZ2/4mV2) originating from the dark matter annihilation. The same coupling leads to a mono-photon plus missing energy signal at the LHC. The entire perturbative parameter space can be probed by the 14 TeV LHC run. The model has also a good prospect of being probed by direct dark matter searches as well as the measurement of the rates of h→γγ and h→Zγ at the LHC

A new method for detection and evaluation of winding mechanical faults in transformer through transfer function measurements

    , Article Advances in Electrical and Computer Engineering ; Volume 11, Issue 2 , 2011 , Pages 23-30 ; 15827445 (ISSN) Bigdeli, M ; Vakilian, M ; Rahimpour, E ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Transfer function (TF) is an acknowledged method for power transformer mechanical faults detection. However the past published works mostly discovered how to specify the faults levels and paid less attention to detection of the type of faults using comparison of TFs. whereas, it seems important for most of the applications to specify the type of fault without opening the unit. This paper presents a new method based on vector fitting (VF) to compare the TFs and specify the type, level and location of the fault. For development of the method, and its verification the required measurements are carried out on four model transformers; under intact condition, and under different fault conditions...

    Abstract
Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph+pythia and sherpa,...

    Abstract
I-vectors have proved to be the most effective features for text-independent speaker verification in recent researches. In this article a new scheme is proposed to utilize i-vectors in text-prompted speaker verification in a simple while effective manner. In order to examine this scheme empirically, a telephony dataset of Persian month names is introduced. Experiments show that the proposed scheme reduces the EER by 31% compared to the state-of-the-art State-GMM-MAP method. Furthermore it is shown that using HMM instead of GMM for universal background modeling leads to 15% reduction in EER

    Abstract
Most of the supervised classification algorithms are proposed to classify newly seen instances based on their learned label space. However, in the case of data streams, conceptevolution is inevitable. In this paper we propose a support vector based approach for classification beyond the learned label space in data streams with regard to other challenges in data streams like concept-drift and infinite-length. We maintain the boundaries of observed classes through the stream by utilizing a support vector based method (SVDD). Newly arrived instances located outside these boundaries will be analyzed by constructing neighborhood graph to detect the emergence of a class beyond the learned label...

    Abstract
The present study attempted to utilize a computational investigation to optimize the external freestream flow influence on thrust-vector control. The external flow with different Mach numbers from 0.05 to 1.1 and with optimum injection angles from 60° to 120° were studied at variable flow conditions. Simulation of a converging-diverging nozzle with shock-vector control method was performed, using the unsteady Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes approach with Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. This research established that freestream flow and fluidic-injection angle are the significant parameters on shock-vector control performance. Computational results indicate that, increasing freestream Mach...

Stator-Flux-Oriented vector control for brushless doubly fed induction generator

    Abstract
Brushless doubly fed induction generators (BDFIGs) show commercial promise for wind-power generation due to their lower capital and operational costs and higher reliability as compared with doubly fed induction generators. This paper presents a vector-control scheme for a BDFIG operating as a variable-speed generator. The proposed vector controller is developed on the power-winding stator-flux frame and can be used to control both the speed and the reactive power. The machine model and the control system are developed in MATLAB. The test results show that the proposed controller has good dynamic performance when changes in speed and reactive power are applied. © 2009 IEEE

    Abstract
The present research paper attempted to utilize a computational investigation for optimizing the fluidic injection angle effects on thrust vectoring. Simulation of a convergent divergent nozzle with shock-vector control method was performed, using URANS approach with Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model. The variable fluidic injection angle is investigated at different aerodynamic and geometric conditions. The current investigation demonstrated that injection angle is an essential parameter in fluidic thrust vectoring. Computational results indicate that optimizing injection angle would improve the thrust vectoring performance. Moreover, dynamic response of starting thrust vectoring would...

    Abstract
In this paper a new context modelling scheme for arithmetic coding of Motion Vectors (MVs) is proposed. The model uses the correlation between the horizontal and vertical components of MVs to improve the probability estimation of symbols. The accurate probability estimation can therefore improve the efficiency of the context-based arithmetic coder. The proposed scheme has been adapted to the H.264 advanced video codec and the simulation results show that a considerable bit rate saving can be achieved in MV coding

    Abstract
In this paper, we present a method for estimating the signal sources steering vector using an arbitrary planar array with omnidirectional elements. The proposed method improves the initial estimation of the signal steering vector in two steps. In the first step of this algorithm we minimize of the distance between the steering vector and the signal subspace. The second step improves the estimation of the first step using a defined cost function which is based on a structural criterion for signal steering vector. Simulation results show the capability of the proposed signal steering vector estimate improvement. © 2000 EUSIPCO

A measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of pairs of oppositely charged leptons (dimuons and dielectrons) produced by the Drell-Yan process in proton-proton collisions is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The asymmetry is measured as a function of lepton pair mass for masses larger than 170 GeV and compared with standard model predictions. An inclusive measurement across both channels and the full mass range yields an asymmetry of 0.612 ± 0.005 (stat) ± 0.007 (syst). As a test of lepton flavor universality, the difference between the dimuon and dielectron...

    Abstract
A search is presented for single production of a vector-like T quark with charge 2/3 e, in the decay channel featuring a top quark and a Z boson, with the top quark decaying hadronically and the Z boson decaying to neutrinos. The search uses data collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1 recorded at the CERN LHC in 2016–2018. The search is sensitive to a T quark mass between 0.6 and 1.8 TeV with decay widths ranging from negligibly small up to 30% of the T quark mass. Reconstruction strategies for the top quark are based on the degree of Lorentz boosting of its final state. At 95%...

Investigating Conformal Vector Field on Riemannian Manifolds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hessam, Hamed (Author) ; Fanai, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
At first the killing vector fields will be investigated. Conditions are introduced for the hypersurface of a Riemannian manifold with a killing vector field to be equipped with the same killing vector field. Then 2-killing vector field is studied and its relation with killing vector fields and monotone vector fields is presented. After that conformal vector fields are discussed and conditions are introduced in order that the Riemannian manifold equipped with a conformal vector field, isisometric to n-dimensional sphere with constant curvature. Finally we will present the conditions which conformal vector field is a 2-killing vector field. Then we will present the results in which the...

Adaptive batch steganography considering image embedding capacity

    , Article Optical Engineering ; Volume 48, Issue 8 , 2009 ; 00913286 (ISSN) Sajedi, H ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The problem of spreading secret data to embed into multiple cover images is called batch steganography and has been theoretically considered recently. Few works have been done in batch steganography, and in all of them, the payload is spread between cover images unwisely. We present the Adaptive batch steganography (ABS) approach and consider embedding capacity as a property of images. ABS is an approach to adaptively spread secret data among multiple cover images based on their embedding capacity. By splitting the payload based on image embedding capacity constraint, embedding can be done more secure than the state when the embedder does not know how much data can be hidden securely in an...

A criterion for slip transfer at grain boundaries in Al

    Abstract
The slip transfer phenomenon was studied at the grain boundaries of pure Aluminum by means of slip trace analysis. Either slip transfer or blocked slip was analyzed in more than 250 grain boundaries and the likelihood of slip transfer between two slip systems across the boundary was assessed. The experimental results indicate that slip transfer was very likely to occur if the residual Burgers vector, ∆b, was below 0.35b and the Luster–Morris parameter was higher than 0.9, and that the ratio of the Luster–Morris parameter and the residual Burgers vector has a threshold above which slip transfer is probable. © 2019 Acta Materialia Inc

Parental control based on speaker class verification

    Abstract
Restricting children access to materials unsuitable for them such as violence scenes is very important for parents. So there is a feature named Parental Control in devices such as televisions and computers to define the contents children can access. The parental control setting must be protected from children and is usually done by a password. In this paper, we propose a new method for distinguishing between adult users and child users based on human speech. In our proposed method, the user must say a word and the adult users are identified by processing the speech. Our current implementation has 92.5% accuracy for distinguishing adult users from children. © 2008 IEEE
