In this manuscript we used the method of coset construction to describe theories of spontaneous symmetry breaking. The mathematical details are included in chapter 2. The utility of the method is that without any knowledge of the UV part of a theory we can construct IR part by just knowing the symmetry breaking pattern. This thesis addresses cuff-less blood pressure (BP) estimation, for systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) estimation with the aid of the processing of vital signals. Both with and without calibration per person approaches for BP estimation are considered. Motivated by the bus escape routing problem in printed circuit boards (PCBs), we study the following optimization problem: given a set of rectangles attached to the boundary of a rectangular region, find a subset of nonoverlapping rectangles with maximum total weight. We present an efficient algorithm that solves this problem optimally in O(n4) time, where n is the number of rectangles in the input instance. This improves over the best previous O(n6) -time algorithm available for the problem. This research introduces temperature measurement by a non-intrusive pyrometric method of the ratio of two colors of soot. For pyrometry, the spectral sensitivity of the Nikon D7100 camera was obtained by developing a neural network based on the results of photographing colored papers and their spectrum, and this camera was used for temperature measurement. Our study investigates the real consequences of variations in the first and second moments of working capital requirement (WCR) in the presence of financial frictions. We introduce a theoretical link from imperfect information about WCR to firms’ performance. Firms choose non-prepaid factors of production with uncertainty about required prepayments, where their access to credit is constrained by collateral. Motivated by the bus escape routing problem in printed circuit boards, we study the following rectangle escape problem: given a set S of n axis-aligned rectangles inside an axis-aligned rectangular region R, extend each rectangle in S toward one of the four borders of R so that the maximum density over the region R is minimized. The density of each point p∈R is defined as the number of extended rectangles containing p. We show that the problem is hard to approximate to within a factor better than 3/2 in general.
