Several research groups have attempted to improve the properties of superconductivity and better understand the superconductivity mechanism of cuprate through doping different elements. In this research, at first, optimization of Y_3 〖Ba〗_5 〖Cu〗_8 O_(19-δ) F_z samples with z=0.2 ,0.4 ,0.6 ,0.8 ,1 ,2 ,3 ,4 have been done. By doping fluorine instead of oxygen, we expected an increase in the transition temperature, based on some the reports. But after...

Neural Synchrony of Spiking Local Neurons and Local Field Potential Activities in Primary Visual Cortex of Awake Monkeys

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoudian, Saeed (Author) ; Jafari, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Lashgari, Reza (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Primary visual cortex plays a paramount role in processing visual information. Visual information after the primitive processing by LGN and Thalamus, will be sent to the primary visual cortex which is called V1 area. According to the fact that V1 neurons have the definitive sensitivity to the edge and contrast of visual stimuli so their behavior are very selective to the certain features, specially contrast, of visual stimuli. These neurons have different response behavior to contrast. In fact most of them have some nonlinear behavior to this feature. Normally we expect that response of them or spiking rate of them grow linearly by the contrast increases but in most many cases they have some...

Detection of Central Nodes in Social Networks

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mahyar, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Movaghar, Ali (Supervisor) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In analyzing the structural organization of many real-world networks, identifying important nodes has been a fundamental problem. The network centrality concept deals with the assessment of the relative importance of network nodes based on specific criteria. Central nodes can play significant roles on the spread of influence and idea in social networks, the user activity in mobile phone networks, the contagion process in biological networks, and the bottlenecks in communication networks. High computational cost and the requirement of full knowledge about the network topology are the most significant obstacles for applying the general concept of network centrality to large real-world social...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golshani Gharyeh Ali, Mojtaba (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The coupling of optical and mechanical degrees of feedom via radiation pressure has been a subject of early research in the context of gravitational wave detection. Recent experimental advances have allowed studying the modifications of mechanical dynamics provided by radiation pressure. First, this thesis reviews the consequences of dynamic back-action in optical microcavities with mechanical degree of feedom, and presents a unified treatment of its two manifestations: the parametric instability (mechanical amplification or oscillation) and radiation pressure back-action cooling. Then, by considering the Fabry-Perot cavity with two movable mirrors, and using Multi-Reflection Method, we...

    Image Categorization Using Deep Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Behfar, Sajad (Author) ; Jafari Siavoshani, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The representation of data influences the explanation factors of data variations. Thus, the success of learner algorithms depends on the data representation. Our main contribution in this thesis is learning of high level and abstract representation using deep structure. One of the fundamental examples of representation learning is the AutoEncoders. The auto-encoder is a rigid framework that doesn’t consider explanation factors in terms of statistical concepts. So, the auto-encoders can be re-interpreted by seeing the decoder as the statistical model of interest. The role of encoder is a mechanism for inference in the model described by the decoder. Our purpose is to design such model with...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khajenezhad, Ahmad (Author) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Safari, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Classification of hyperspectral remote sensing images is a challenging problem, because of the small number of labeled pixels, high dimensionality of the data and large number of pixels. In this context, semisupervised learning can improve the classification accuracy by extracting information form the distribution of all the labeled and unlabeled data. Among semi-supervised methods, manifold-based algorithms have been frequently used in recent years. In most of the previous works, manifolds are constructed according to spectral representation of data, while spatial dependency of pixel labels is an important property of the images in remote sensing applications. In this thesis, after...

Analyzing Cancer Cell Identity and Appropriative Subnetworks using Machine Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saberi, Ali (Author) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Sharifi Zarchi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
From a long time ago cancer has been threatening human’s health, and researchers have been grappling with the phenomenon for numerous years. In the annals of this struggle, the number of cancer victims has outnumbered the survivals in a way that, until recently, suffering from cancer was perceived to be equivalent to death. Permanent defeat against cancer stems from the incomplete recognition of the phenomenon. In recent years, with the advent of technologies to extract information from the heart of cells and at the genome and transcriptome levels, man has been able to acquire a deeper understanding of cancer, its behavior and operation. Now that cancer is regarded to be a genetic disease,...

    Abstract
In this paper, the lasing action in three-dimensional active random systems has been numerically investigated. Here, random systems of spherical dielectric particles imbedded in an active medium are considered. The quasi steady state approximation for the population inversion of the active medium is applied to solve three dimensional governing equations. Results show that when the density of particles increases to an upper limit, the intensity of lasing modes is enhanced. Also, the effects of pumping rate and particle size on the number of lasing modes and their intensity are studied. Lasing threshold of laser modes in different disordered systems is calculated and it is shown that by an...

    Abstract
In the presence of self and cross saturation effects, the laser governing equations are nonlinear. To solve the governing equations of a fiber Bragg grating random laser, on the basis of the transfer matrix method, a simple and fast iterative method is introduced. The method is employed to obtain the frequency, threshold pumping rate and spatial distribution of different laser modes. Numerical calculations show that by increasing the number of fiber Bragg grating, the number of lasing modes increases, while the threshold pumping rate of the first mode decreases. Our theoretical results are in agreement with the experimental observations reported by previous authors

Investigating the Rank Effect in the Trading Behavior of Iranian Mutual Funds

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Ehsan (Author) ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The rank effect means that investors are more likely to sell the best or worst positions in their portfolio in terms of returns. According to this effect, the probability of selling a stock in a prominent position (first or last) is higher than other stocks in the portfolio. Apart from being a behavioral bias, the rank effect is that the decision to sell a stock depends on how it is compared and ranked with the rest of the portfolio. In this study, we examine the rank effect on the trading behavior of Iranian mutual funds for the period 1390-1399 and find that it is significant. First in a statistical and univariate form, and then by including other variables such as firm-specific...
