Abstract
A method is developed for in situ generation of 1,3-dioxan-5-one derivatives 2. These compounds are simple precursors for accessing carbohydrate structures and previously had to be produced via stepwise procedures using excessive amounts of reagents. In the present work, three different derivatives of 2 were synthesized via the reaction of trialkoxyalkanes with dihydroxyacetone dimer 1 in the presence of acetic acid as the catalyst. In the same pot, derivatives of 2 were reacted with aromatic aldehydes and 30 mol% of pyrrolidine to obtain high yields of the respective bischalcones 3 within short time periods. © 2019 M. Measurement of Radionuclide Transport Parameters for Soil Samples Taken from Naein Radioactive Waste Disposal Site by Using Column Experiment and Determining the Concentration Profile through the Column
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Samadfaam, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Radioactive wastes are generated at different stages of the nuclear fuel cycle and other activities related to the handling of the radioactive substances. In order to protect human being and the environment from any harmful effects of ionizing radiation, it’s necessary to isolate radioactive waste by disposing them in near surface or deep geological formations (depending on the radioactive hazard). To ensure that the waste is properly isolated from the environment for required periods of time, the safety assessment of the disposal site is essential. Transport of radionuclides from the disposal site to the environment is the essential part at any safety assessment program. Therefore,...

Abstract
Riding comfort, driving stability and drivability are important factors in good vehicle performance. These factors are heavily subject to low frequency vibration generated by engine. A recent tendency in engine mounting system design is the insertion of a sub-frame. In this paper a complete model of a typical vehicle is simulated with and without sub-frame. An acceleration analysis is studied for three important parts; steering roll, pedals and beneath of the deriver's feet. Also the effect and importance of existence of engine mount is studied by removing one engine mount. The results are presented graphically and show how using sub-frame improve the isolation of body vibration due to the...

Abstract
Although the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using interference screw is a well-accepted surgical procedure, patients still suffer graft failure in the initial rehabilitation phase. Graft fixation stability of a newly designed anatomical hybrid thread tapered interference screw (AHTTIS) was compared with a conventional standard one (CSIS) by conducting in-vitro mechanical tests. According to the CSIS manufacturer's instruction, eight tapered bone tunnels, matching AHTTIS geometry, and eight straight cylindrical tunnels were drilled in artificial bone blocks. Bovine tendon grafts were fixed using AHTTIS and CSIS in their corresponding bone tunnels. Each graft was subjected to...

Abstract
In this paper, we will discuss two special classes of mathematical programming models with fuzzy random variables. In the first model, a linear programming problem with fuzzy decision variables and fuzzy random coefficients is introduced. Then an algorithm is developed to solve the model based on fuzzy optimization method and fuzzy ranking method. In the second model, a fuzzy random quadratic spanning tree problem is presented. Then the proposed problem is formulated and solved by using the scalar expected value of fuzzy random variables. Furthermore, illustrative numerical examples are also given to clarify the methods discussed in this paper

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis the performance of the all optical AND gates, based the Four Wave Mixing process (FWM), for application in optical communication and computing systems, has been investigated. In the performance analysis of these AND gates, we mainly focus on its application in the receivers of the Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. For analyzing the performance of these receivers we utilize the existing mathematical model for FWM [1-5], which leads to the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) coupled equations. The attenuation, chromatic dispersion and Raman scattering effects have been taken into account in this model and the scalar approximation, for approximating the relation...
Ultrashort Pulse Receiver Design Via Statistical Invariance Principle
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
With the emergence and development of ultra broadband communication systems incorporating ultrashort pulses, the design of suitable receiver structures became one the most significant problems in such systems; since due the limited bandwidth and speed of current electronic devices, most of the existing receiver structures cannot be used properly. In the field of radio communications, the design of simple and low power consumption receivers for ultrawideband (UWB) and millimeter wave band communication systems, which do not rely on complex channel estimation mechanisms, is of much interest. In ultrashort light pulse optical communication systems –and specially coherent optical CDMA systems–...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Achieving various data rates over a wide range of applications and in a multiple-access scenario should be done under certain power and bandwidth constraints. Emerging UWB communications has opened a novel perspective against different wireless network challenges, especially overwhelming data rates. In the research field, we begin our thesis with exposition of UWB, narrowband interference and spread time codes. We elaborate on the properties of spread time codes through frequency domain analysis of a reusable multiple-access scheme. Evaluating the variance of ISI, MAI and RUI, we demonstrate the spread time codes behave in an optimum manner, i.e., the most RUI resistibility, along with all...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, microgyroscopes are among the most important products of MEMS. The production of small, precise and inexpensive gyroscopes has become possible as the result of recent developments in fabrication technology. In this thesis it is intended to introduce a new method for manufacturing more precise microgyroscopes regarding manufacture facilities. Using this new method, sensitivity and resistance of microgyroscopes are increased against noises which are primarily caused by vibration and rotation about undesirable axes. The rotational movement imposed on the gyro is detected through fluid flow within its torus channel. This transformation facilitates the measurement of the initial motion....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The fiber-reinforced composite materials possess advantage for structural purpose in various industries. Delamination is recognized as one of the major causes of damage during drilling of fiber reinforced composites, which not only reduces the structural integrity, but also has the potential for long-term performance deterioration. It is difficult to produce precise quality holes with high efficiency by conventional drilling method. Drilling is frequently applied in production cycle while the anisotropy and nonhomogeneity of composite materials affect the chip deformation and machining behavior during drilling. In this thesis, a new non-traditional drilling technology is presented for solve...

Abstract
In this thesis, we statistically model and analyze one of the main systems in optical communications which are based on Second HarmonicGeneration (SHG) process. To this end, we first introduce various applications of this process in optical communication systems and see that the main application of this nonlinear process is in the process of optical clock recovery in both of OTDM and SPE_OCDMA networks. In the rest of the thesis, we characterize the mathematical structure of these systems and use that to statistically analyze their behavior. In considering the optical clock recovery system based on SHG, we introduce three intrinsic sources of timing jitter in the system, namely, the On-Off...

Determining Factors of Foreign Direct Investment Using Gravity Model
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abedini, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Foreign direct investment (FDI) has considerably increased in recent years and achieved two percent of the world GDP in 2009. The positive impact of FDI on many national economic variables such as export and employment has been a great motivation for countries to seek it. In spite of many promoting factors in Iran, the Iranian FDI inflow still remains small. Using a huge panel dataset including 2604 real observations, this study aims to recognize and evaluate the impact of main factors influencing FDI inwards across the world. Based on a theoretical approach, we develop an empirical gravity model which includes not only the traditional mass variables but also some specific factors to FDI...
