Fetal R Detection from Mixed Maternal and Fetal MCG Signals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kharabian Masouleh, Shahrzad (Author) ; Shamsollahi, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Sameni, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Analyzing cardiac function of the fetus during pregnancy is proved to be an important prenatal care procedure. Traditional methods like auscultation and ultrasonography could only lead to anatomical information about the fetal heart. So in the recent decades many researches on the abdominal electrical signals of the pregnant women have been done. Nowadays, it is possible to record the heart magnetic signals. With regard to the morphological similarity between the electrical and magnetical signals of the heart and the superiority of the magnetic ones, one could assume more diagnostic capacity for the fetal MCG. It should be mentioned that finding the location of the fetal R waves could help...

A Study on Relationships between Career Anchors and Career Orientations

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahrzad, Zarvan (Author) ; Alavi, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Career Orientations or career choices, can be affected by internal and external factors. External factors are the environmental conditions that the reward and the attractiveness of selecting a career choice are dependent to them. Internal factors include the needs of oneself from his/her job, his/her beliefs and his/her skills and competencies about the job. In this research the internal antecedents of managerial and technical orientations between programmers have been identified. On the other hand the perception of people about the compensation system as an external factor which can affect the mentioned relationships, have been analyzed. It seems that this is the first research which career...

    Abstract
Route choice modeling is one of the most important parts of traffic assignment problem. Recently, this model is used to describe the reactions of drivers to Traveler Information Systems in order to develop accurate Advanced Traffic Management and Information System (ATMIS). Therefore accurate model is necessary. In this paper we proposed a new model based on Type-II fuzzy logic to model route choice problem. This model can take account of the imprecision, uncertainties and vagueness lying in the dynamic choice process and makes more accurate modeling of drivers' behavior than deterministic, stochastic and Type-I fuzzy models. In our proposed model we consider average speed and cost...

Fetal R-wave detection from multichannel abdominal ECG recordings in low SNR

    Abstract
Abdominal recordings of fetal ECG (fECG) have lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as compared with invasive procedures. In this paper we have combined two previously proposed methods, one for extracting fECG, called piCA and the other, a transformation based on Hilbert transform to enhance the R-peaks. The combination of these methods seems to work well in situations of noisy data and fetal repositioning. Also a comparison is done by using ICA in order to extract the fetal signals. Performance of both methods is studied separately. Results show that applying the transformation on the components extracted with the use of piCA (after maternal ECG cancellation), had a very good performance. Also,...

    Abstract
ECG denoising has always been an important issue in medical engineering. The purposes of denoising are reducing noise level and improving signal to noise ratio (SNR) without distorting the signal. This paper proposes a method for removing white Gaussian noise from ECG signals. The concepts of singularity and local maxima of the wavelet transform modulus were used for analyzing singularity and reconstructing the ECG signal. Adaptive thresholding was used to remove white Gaussian noise modulus maximum of wavelet transform and then reconstruct the signal

Multi-task learning from fixed-wing UAV images for 2D/3D city modelling

    , Article American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, ASPRS 2021 Annual Conference, 29 March 2021 through 2 April 2021 ; Volume 44, Issue M-3 , 2021 , Pages 1-5 ; 16821750 (ISSN) Bayanlou, M. R ; Khoshboresh Masouleh, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Single-task learning in artificial neural networks will be able to learn the model very well, and the benefits brought by transferring knowledge thus become limited. In this regard, when the number of tasks increases (e.g., semantic segmentation, panoptic segmentation, monocular depth estimation, and 3D point cloud), duplicate information may exist across tasks, and the improvement becomes less significant. Multi-task learning has emerged as a solution to knowledge-transfer issues and is an approach to scene understanding which involves multiple related tasks each with potentially limited training data. Multi-task learning improves generalization by leveraging the domain-specific information...

Parallel Implemetaion of Dynamic Traffic Assignment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarinbal Masouleh, Amir (Author) ; Shafahi, Yousef (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, a Simulation-based Dynamic Traffic Assignment model based on parallel Processing is proposed. Dynamic Traffic Assignment has two key sub problems: Route choice modeling and Dynamic network loading. In route choice problem, a Type-II fuzzy system is proposed to model the complexities and ambiguities, which exist in the behavior of network users. The model can consider behaviors of network users in the forms of route choosing and route changing. In dynamic network loading problem, a Cellular Automata model is proposed as a microscopic simulator. Finally, In order to speed up the model and to use it in real time problems, the proposed Dynamic Traffic Assignment algorithm is...

    , Article International Conference on Robotics and Mechatronics, ICROM 2015, 7 October 2015 through 9 October 2015 ; 2015 , Pages 569-574 ; 9781467372343 (ISBN) Mehrafrooz, B ; Mohammadi, M ; Masouleh, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2015
    Abstract
In this paper, dynamic modeling and dynamic sensitivity analysis of an n-revolute planar serial robot are investigated. First, a dynamic modeling algorithm is proposed which is based on the concept of the so-called Natural Orthogonal Complement. The main goal of this algorithm consists in deriving the corresponding dynamic equations of a planar serial manipulator systematically. As a comparison study, 3-DOF a planar serial manipulator is modeled and the results of the proposed algorithm is compared with other methods, i.e., Newton-Euler, Lagrange-Euler, Adams software and an Open Dynamics Engine, the so-called MatODE. Then, in order to develop a dynamic sensitivity analysis scheme, Sobol's...

    Abstract
Due to compability of Magnesium with the body, it is a suitable material for making biodegradable stents, Althogh, its mechanical properties are not desirable for stent application. Accordingly, lately, magnesium’s microstructure and mechanical properties have been improved using various methods, including the process of severe plastic deformation (SPD). Many severe plastic deformation methods have been introduced for the fabrication of ultrafine grain tubes till now, which the process of tubular channel angular pressing (TCAP) is the most effective one. In the first part of the research, Magnesium tubes with a thickness of 1 mm were processed using the TCAP with a trapezoidal channel, and...

Fuzzy pole placement for speed control in D.C. motor

    , Article Recent Advances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering ; Volume 11, Issue 1 , March , 2018 , Pages 15-20 ; 23520965 (ISSN) Kharabian, B ; Mohammad Shahri, A ; Mousavi Mashhadi, S .K ; Samsaam, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Background: in this paper, fuzzy pole placement control approach is proposed to control the speed of D.C motor. In this method, state feedback gain is tuned by fuzzy logic. Methods: In conventional pole placement control, constant gain is considered to insert the poles of system in the desired place. Therefore, unnecessary effort is appliedto the system, and the system implementation becomes costly. In contrast, in fuzzy pole placement control, poles of system alter gradually based on the performance of system and are settled in desired point causing the system to display apposite performance. In other words, in conventional pole placement, a determined pair of poles exists, whereas in fuzzy...

Collision-free path planning of a novel reconfigurable mobile parallel mechanism

    Abstract
This paper initially deals with the design of a new customized reconfigurable mobile parallel mechanism. This mechanism is called the 'Taar Reconfigurable ParaMobile' (TRPM), consisting of three mobile robots as the main actuators. Then, the kinematics and path planning for this mechanism are presented. The newly proposed mechanism is expected to circumvent some shortcomings of inspection operation in unknown environments with unexpected changes in their workspace, for example, in a water pipe with a non-uniform cross-sectional area. In this paper, 'Artificial Potential Field' (APF) has been assumed to be the path planning algorithm and its resulting attractive and repulsive forces are only...

A Case Based Reasoning Model for Cost Estimation of Product Development in Design and Process Planning Phases Using a Meta Heuristic Algorithm

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadian Masouleh, Minoo (Author) ; Fatahi Valilai, Omid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
New product development (NPD) is a crucial process in maintaining a company’s competitive position and succeeding in dynamic markets. One of contemporary trends in the global economy is mass customisation that bases on modifications of existing products instead of designing everything as a new project. Product development can be achieved in design, planning or production phases. Specifications of previous products deliver information of design, cost and time of past NPD projects that can be the basis for developing new products. Given the low chance of technical success, market change and high cost research, market demand, product development management is important to increase the quality...

Improving the performance of heuristic searches with judicious initial point selection

    , Article Proceedings of The 5th IEEE International Symposium on Embedded Computing, SEC 2008, 6 October 2008 through 8 October 2008, Beijing ; 2008 , Pages 14-19 ; 9780769533483 (ISBN) Tahaee, A ; Jahangir, A. H ; Habibi Masouleh, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper we claim that local optimization can produce proper start point for genetic search. We completely test this claim on partitioning problem and on the performance of genetic search in a real problem that is finding aggregation tree in the sensor networks. The presented method (named Tendency algorithm) increases the performance of heuristic searches, and can be used in parallel with other tuning methods. The paper justifies the logic behind tendency algorithm by measuring the "entropy" of solution (in regard to optimal solution), and by numerous empirical tests. © 2008 IEEE

Geometric Bounds for the Entropy of Geodesic Flow

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Askari Masouleh, Niloofar (Author) ; Fanai, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the aim is to provide lower or upper bounds for the entropy of the geodesic flow on Riemannian manifolds. There are well-known results in this area derived from the works of mathematicians such as Sarnak, Osserman, Mane, and others. Our focus is primarily on geometric bounds that are expressed in terms of Riemannian curvature. We will attempt to examine these results in detail and consider some of their applications

Finding aggregation tree with genetic algorithm for network correlated data gathering

    , Article 2nd International Conference on Sensor Technologies and Applications, SENSORCOMM 2008, Cap Esterel, 25 August 2008 through 31 August 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 429-434 ; 9780769533308 (ISBN) Habibi Masouleh, H ; Tahaee, S. A ; Jahangir, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The critical issue in designing correlated data networks like Wireless Sensor Networks is to minimize the total cost of data transmission in the network, and decrease the amount of data flow. The problem of finding optimal aggregation tree for correlated data gathering in single sink network is considered as an NP-Complete problem and hence heuristic methods are usually applied to solve it[1]. In this paper, we apply genetic algorithm (GA) to solve the problem. In our method, we improve the performance of genetic search by selecting proper initial population. This initial population is determined in two ways, by using Prime's algorithm, and shortest path tree. The main issue is to regard...

    Abstract
Landfill leachate is a highly contaminated liquid generated in municipal solid waste landfills. The application of sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOP) in landfill leachate treatments is emerging due to their ability to degrade both organic refractory matters and ammonia nitrogen. In this paper, application of peroxymonosulfate (PMS), activated by Fe2+ and UV was used as an economical and environmentally friendly approach for treatment of landfill leachate. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and ammonia removals were measured as the two primary responses of landfill leachate to UV/PMS/Fe2+ treatment system. The main parameters (pH, PMS/Fe2+ mass ratio, Fe2+ dosage) affecting...
