Synthesis and characterization of poly(methacrylates) containing spiroacetal and norbornene moieties in side chain [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 77, Issue 1, pages 30–38, 5 July 2000 Pourdjavadi, A. (Ali) ; Mirjalili, Bibi Fatemeh ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A four-step synthetic strategy was applied to achieve novel methacrylic monomers. 5-Norbornene-2,2-dimethanol was prepared from a Diels–Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and acrolein, followed by the treatment of the adduct with an HCHO/KOH/MeOH solution. The resulting 1,3-diol (1) was then acetalized with different aromatic aldehydes having OH groups on the ring to produce four spiroacetal derivatives. The reaction of methacryloyl chloride with the phenolic derivatives led to four new methacrylic monomers that were identified spectrochemically (mass, FTIR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy). Free radical solution polymerization was used to prepare novel spiroacetal–norbornene containing...

A Method for Searching on Encrypted Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansoori, Fatemeh (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Using database encryption to protect data in some situations where access control is not soleley enough is inevitable. Database encryption provides an additional layer of protecton to conventional access control techniques. It prevents unauthorized users, including intruders breaking into a network, from viewing the sensitive data. As a result data remains protected even in the event that database is successfully attacked or stolen. However, encryption and decryption of data result in database performance degradation. In the situation where all the information is stored in encrypted form, one cannot make the selection on the database content any more. Data should be decrypted first, so an...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fatemeh Tabatabaei (Author) ; Koohi, Sommaye (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on the importance of DNA/RNA binding proteins in different cellular processes, finding binding sites of them play crucial role in many applications, like designing drug/vaccine, designing protein, and cancer control. Many studies target this issue and try to improve the prediction accuracy with three strategies: complex neural-network structures, various types of inputs, and ML methods to extract input features. But due to the growing volume of sequences, these methods face serious processing challenges. So, this paper presents KDeep, based on CNN-LSTM and the primary form of DNA/RNA sequences as input. As the key feature improving the prediction accuracy, we propose a new encoding...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansoori, Hassan (Author) ; Adibnazari, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis aims to discuss matters in the area of non-symmetrical contact. Problems have been solved by the use of different numerical methods and their precision has been determined. In most projects which have been conducted in regards with contact's studies, Indenter has been considered vertical on the other object and particles of two objects are moving in the vertical direction of the free surface. This matter has resulted in obtaining symmetrical functions relevant to the point of beginning contact which helps distributing contact pressure, stresses and movements. In addition, mostly profiles of two involved objects are considered symmetrical that this matter greatly contributes...

Design and Synthesis of Novel Coumarin Derivatives as Quorum Sensing Inhibitors & Performing Click Chemistry Involving Lysozyme Protein and a Novel Synthetic Fluorecent Compound

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mansoori, Sirwan (Author) ; Kalhor, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Quorum Sensing is a cell-to-cell communication pr°Cess depending on cell concentration. Communication among bacterial cells °Ccurs through small molecular signals called autoinducers. The consequences of quorum sensing include the activation of pathogenic properties and activation of the gene for biofilm formation. Biofilms are aggregations of bacteria that adhere to surfaces through extracellular polymeric substances. Bacteria in the biofilm phase are much more resistant to antimicrobial agents than their free-swimming counterparts (i.e. the bacteria in planktonic form). In this study, first a series of coumarin derivatives were synthesized; but due to low solubility of the synthesized...

Design of Low-Power Zero Temperature Coefficient (ZTC) CMOS Oscillators

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahidani, Mohammad Aref (Author) ; Akbar, Fatemeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The increasing demand for autonomous vehicles and reliable communication protocols and hardware interfaces, such as CAN bus and USB, underscores the necessity for stable clock sources that maintain a low temperature coefficient (TC) over wide temperature ranges. This demand is particularly emphasized in applications such as wearables, network sensors, downhole devices, WSNs, and IoT, where long-lasting battery life and frequency-stable clock sources over a broad temperature range (e.g. -20 °C to 100 °C) are crucial. Traditionally, variations in frequency caused by temperature have been mitigated by employing off-chip components like crystals or ceramic based oscillators, but this approach...

Investigation of the temperature and density dependences of the effective pair potential parameters using variational theory

    , Article International Journal of Thermophysics ; Volume 25, Issue 1 , 2004 , Pages 187-203 ; 0195928X (ISSN) Kermanpour, F ; Parsafar, G. A ; Mansoori, G. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers  2004
    Abstract
A variational theory (VT), in which the potential energy of a real system is evaluated relative to the hard-sphere system, was used to investigate the medium's effects on the pair potential parameters. By adding the medium's effects to the isolated pair potential, the concept of an 'effective pair potential' (EPP) was introduced. The EPP parameters were compared with those of the average effective pair potential (AEPP) for Ar, which showed the importance of the medium effects and the long range interactions of the AEPP in dense fluids. The study showed that the depth parameter of the AEPP is much larger than that of the EPP

    Abstract
The turbulent heat transfer in gas-solid flows through an inclined pipe under various inclination angles is studied with constant wall heat flux. The hydrodynamic k- τ and kθ- τθ thermal two phase model is used in a lagrangian/Eulerian four way approach. The numerical results agreed reasonably with available experimental data in vertical and horizontal pipe flows. The effects of inclination angles on the flow patterns are reported. The pressure drop and Nusselt number are enhanced significantly as the inclination increases up to a certain angle. The mass loading ratio has influence on the optimal inclination angle. With increasing loading ratio, the optimal inclination angle of maximum...

Evaluation of the Damage to Steel MRF Structures Under Near Field Earthquake Pulses Using a Performance-Based Design Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousavi, Fatemeh Sadat (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Research on the characteristics of the near field earthquakes has been very popular in recent years due to the considerable damages they have caused to the structures located within the vicinity of seismic sources. The incapability of response spectra for structural damage assessment has been revealed through recent investigations. The recorded data show that the near field earthquakes are often accompanied by a large energy pulse in the beginning of the records caused by the so-called directivity phenomenon. That has encouraged many researchers to study the possibility of using the velocity pulse of these records to evaluate the imposed seismic demands on structures. Thus, investigating the...
