    , Article Hydrometallurgy ; Volume 222 , 2023 ; 0304386X (ISSN) Nouri Khangah, B ; Ghoddocynejad, D ; Outokesh, M ; Saberyan, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2023
    Abstract
Resin in pulp, as the most frequently employed process for extraction of uranium from low-grade ores, encounters difficulties when the pulp contains dense or abrasive minerals, e.g., Saghand ores in central Iran. To overcome these complications, it was suggested to remove solid content of the pulp at first, and inject the clear solution into a cascade of Pachuca reactors, where uranium is adsorbed by an anion exchanger such as Varion-AP. We made two mini pilot cascades, each comprising ten Pachuca reactors, to check both co-current and countercurrent resin in solution processes on the Saghand leach liquor. The countercurrent scheme, having a higher efficiency, was able to adsorb 99% of...

Improving data protection in BSS based secure communication: mixing matrix design

    , Article Wireless Networks ; Volume 27, Issue 7 , 2021 , Pages 4747-4758 ; 10220038 (ISSN) Aslani, M. R ; Shamsollahi, M. B ; Nouri, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Abstract: In this paper, a secure and efficient Blind Source Separation (BSS) based cryptosystem is presented. The use of BSS in audio and image cryptography in wireless networks has attracted more attention. A BSS based cryptosystem consists of three main parts: secret data, secret keys, and mixing matrix. In this paper, we propose a new design to create a proper mixing matrix in BSS based cryptosystem. We offer a mathematical criterion to select mixing matrix elements before encryption. The proposed criterion gives a simple way to attach the secret sources to keys, which makes source separation very hard for the adversary. Versus, we show that using the random mixing matrix can lead to...

Two-phase flow in microchannels with a bounding porous medium

    , Article ASME 2011 9th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, ICNMM 2011, 19 June 2011 through 22 June 2011 ; Volume 1 , June , 2011 , Pages 263-268 ; 9780791844632 (ISBN) Nouri Borujerdi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
This paper investigates numerical simulation of one-dimensional homogeneous adiabatic gas-liquid two-phase flow in a rectangular microchannel with one boundary porous wall under the assumption of hydrophobic condition. Gas enters the microchannel with a uniform velocity and liquid is injected through the porous side wall. The present approach is to simulate water injection effects and developing mechanism of two-phase flow. The modeling and solution of the conservation equations provide pressure drop, vapor quality, void fraction and tow-phase mixture velocity for different water injection rates. The results show that velocity and pressure drop significantly perturbed when the water...

A new approach to thermo-fluid behavior through porous layer of heat pipes

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 25, Issue 3B , 2018 , Pages 1236-1242 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Nouri Borujerdi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Sharif University of Technology  2018
    Abstract
This paper developed a new mathematical model to investigate the heat transfer as well as wick's thickness of a heat pipe. The model was established by conservative equations of continuity, momentum, and energy in the thermal boundary layer. Using a similarity variable, the governing equations were changed to a set of ordinary differential equations and were solved numerically by the forth-order Runge-Kutta method. The flow variables, such as velocity components, wick's thickness, and Nusselt number, were obtained. The results show that the Nusselt number is proportional to the square root of the Darcy-modified Rayleigh number and to the distance from the edge of the condenser surface....

    Sharif University of Technology  2004
    Abstract
The present study is undertaken to calculate the rate of change of pressure and residual air mass in die casting for vacuum venting under choked flow conditions. In these calculations, the influence of friction factor, due to roughness and vent air velocity change through the Mach number, has been taken into account. The results show that there is a critical area ratio below which the pressure and vent inlet Mach number increase with time and above which decrease with time. In addition, for an area ratio less than the critical area, the rate of change of residual air mass seems to be more changed at the late stages than at the early stages of the filling time. The picture is reversed for a...

    Abstract
The current study was attributed to uranium uptake by Varion-AP resin from Saghand, Iran Uranium Mine, ore leach liquor. A suitable high-efficiency system was designed for continuous ion exchange at the bench scale and the uranium uptake parameters were optimized. In this system, 1 reactors was used with a volume of 3 liters in stage with the same height difference. A leach liquor containing uranium with a concentration of between 200 and 300 mg/l was flowed from the feed storage by gravity between reactor 1 to 10 at a flow rate of 30 lit/h and Varion-AP resin was transferred in counter-current flow from stage 10 to 1 by a pneumatic pump. The output of each reactor had a screener that...

Scheduling tasks with exponential duration on unrelated parallel machines

    , Article Discrete Applied Mathematics ; Volume 160, Issue 16-17 , November , 2012 , Pages 2462-2473 ; 0166218X (ISSN) Nouri, M ; Ghodsi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
This paper introduces a stochastic scheduling problem. In this problem a directed acyclic graphs (DAG) represents the precedence relations among m tasks that n workers are scheduled to execute. The question is to find a schedule Σ such that if tasks are assigned to workers according to Σ, the expected time needed to execute all the tasks is minimized. The time needed to execute task t by worker w is a random variable expressed by a negative exponential distribution with parameter λ wt and each task can be executed by more than one worker at a time. In this paper, we will prove that the problem in its general form is NP-hard, but when the DAG width is constant, we will show that the optimum...

    , Article 3rd International Frontiers of Algorithmics Workshop, FAW 2009, Hefei, 20 June 2009 through 23 June 2009 ; Volume 5598 LNCS , 2009 , Pages 120-131 ; 03029743 (ISSN); 3642022693 (ISBN); 9783642022692 (ISBN) Nouri, M ; Ghodsi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Computing the visibility polygon, VP, of a point in a polygonal scene, is a classical problem that has been studied extensively. In this paper, we consider the problem of computing VP for any query point efficiently, with some additional preprocessing phase. The scene consists of a set of obstacles, of total complexity O(n). We show for a query point q, VP(q) can be computed in logarithmic time using O(n 4) space and O(n 4 logn) preprocessing time. Furthermore to decrease space usage and preprocessing time, we make a tradeoff between space usage and query time; so by spending O(m) space, we can achieve O(n 2 log √ m/n)/√ m)query time, where n 2≤m≤n 4. These results are also applied to...

    Abstract
In this research, the modal parameters of a beam in free-free condition are extracted by performing different experiments in the laboratory. For this purpose, two different techniques are employed. The first methodology is considered as a time domain method in Operational Modal Analysis. The other one is frequency domain impact hammer test which is categorized as an Experimental Modal Analysis method and can be regarded as the most common method in modal analysis. Checking the results obtained by the two methods, one can notice a distinct inconsistency in modal damping ratios extracted by each method. However, based on recent publications on the subject, it can be inferred that the time...

    , Article Materials Research Bulletin ; Volume 42, Issue 9 , 2007 , Pages 1769-1776 ; 00255408 (ISSN) Nouri, E ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
The fractal study of thin layer films has been concerned by numerous studies, but it is a novel idea to use this method for interpretation of layer formation during electrocrystallization, simultaneously. In present study, Scharifker's equations were derived for instantaneous and progressive nucleation and 3D growth of hemispherical centers under diffusion-controlled condition to calculate in situ change of fractal dimension of surface. It was assumed that the layer could be formed completely when fractal dimension of surface inclined to 2. Moreover, the fractal analysis of AFM images has confirmed the presumed model. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Nondestructive tests and evaluations are robust techniques for inspecting different attributes of concrete configuration. However, most nondestructive techniques focused on an aspect of concrete configuration based on comparison to other samples. In this paper, an innovative inverse analysis technique was developed to inspect different attributes of concrete configuration simultaneously. The methodology was based on the scattering feature of the ultrasonic waves during propagation in heterogeneous media. The transition matrix method was employed to determine the scattered wavefield. This method considers the shape of objects, unlike most other numerical methods. Furthermore, a novel...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghanbari, Mahdi (Author) ; Nouri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, the use of gas turbines with low capacity have acceptance in large quantity. This type of gas turbines with a capacity of approximately 5-200kW are known as microturbines. This type of turbines due to the existence of limitations on increasing of turbine inlet temperature and compressor pressure ratio has low efficiency compared to the turbine with high capacity. Therefore the use of a recuperator in the cycle is necessary. Optimum design of heat recuperator has important effect on improving of gas turbine cycle efficiency. In this project for optimum design of heat recuperator, the effect of recuperator on gas turbine cycle efficiency is studied. By determining geometric...

Stability of Stratified Two-Phase Flow by Chebyshev Collocation Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sajadian, Ahmad (Author) ; Nouri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis fluid flow stability will be studied using Chebychev collocation spectral method. In general instability occurs between layers of a single fluid or at the interface of two different fluids. In case of an unstable flow small imposed perturbations on the flow will grow with time and their amplitudes will grow larger. Instability in most cases is an unfavorable phenomenon and therefore should be avoided.Two-phase flow processes in horizontal or vertical pipes under various conditions like natural or forced convection are of considerable importance in industrial applications. Two-phase flow can be found in many devices and industries like boilers, nuclear reactors, cooling and...

Simulation of Natural Convection Inside an Enclosure with Several Heated Bodies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sepahi, Farzan (Author) ; Nouri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
in this study, turbulent natural convection inside an air filled square cavity with several hot and cold internal bodies in the range of Rayleigh numbers between 1010 and 1012 has been investigated numerically. Vertical walls of the enclosure have been considered isothermal and horizontal walls are insulated in all cases. An appropriate arrangement of internal bodies in which the minimum heat transfer occurs is desired. For this purpose, two dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved with the finite volume discretization method in a staggered grid. In addition, two equation high-Reynolds-number model with standard wall functions is used to simulate the...

Improvement of Auction and Settlemtnt Mechanisms for Co-optimization of Payments to Suppliers for Energy and Spinning Reserve

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Nouri, Alireza (Author) ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, after analyzing the disadvantages of the offer cost minimization mechanism, it will be shown that it is necessary to find new auction mechanisms to be applied along with the fair, practical, and justifiable marginal pricing mechanism. Alternatively, the payment cost minimization mechanism has been proposed in the recent years. Different aspects of this mechanism have not been analyzed yet. There are many practical and economical considerations that yet need to be modeled in this mechanism and the problem formulation needs some improvements. As the first step, this mechanism will be compared with the traditionally offer cost minimization in a very simple market model....
