Abstract
In recent years due to the advances in semiconductor technology and the ability to implement small-scale manufacturing, communication at 60 GHz band receive more attention than ever has been. The use of this frequency band is not only about 7-9 GHz unlicensed broadband access provided, but getting smaller devices make it possible to use multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver, and thus taking advantage of multiple input – multiple output systems. Antennas used in these systems should have features such as small size , low weight, high gain and bandwidth and also they should keep their high efficiency and gainat high frequency range (about a few GHz ). To achieve these features...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
This present work is an introduction of a new electrochemical sensor toward the determination of biomolecule. A simple electrodeposition method was employed to construct a thin film modifier of palladium–gold nanoparticles (Pd–AuNPs) decorated multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Morphological characterization of the modified electrode was performed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. This nanostructured film modified electrode effectively exhibited enhanced properties for the detection of ceftazidime (CFZ). The effects of various experimental variables such...
Modeling User Behavior in Applications and Maximising User Lifecycle
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Smartphones are ubiquitous nowadays. This fact would give the opportunity to the developers to earn lots of money and attention. One of the main factors in a successful business plan is user lifecycle, meaning that users use the app more and more in a specific period. For app developers, notifications are an effective way to interact with the users in different ways depending on the nature of the notification. However, hen a notification is sent out to a user, it is delivered directly without considering the users situationor psychological state. The notification could be perceived as a distraction or interruption, potentially causing inattentionand frustration for the recipient, even if the...

Abstract
In this work, uniform and monodisperse hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) are synthesized through two different processes using polydopamine (PDA), as a carbon precursor, and silica core as a template, under the modified Stöber condition. The surface morphology of the synthesized structures is characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). In the next step, the electrochemical behavior of isoprenaline (ISPN) is investigated by using glassy carbon electrode modified with a thin film of the synthesized hollow carbon spheres. The electrochemical characterization of the modified electrodes is...

Abstract
Herein, we present a novel, simple, and ultrasensitive electrochemical DNA (E-DNA) sensor based on hollow carbon spheres (HCS) decorated with polyaniline (PANI). A thiolated 21-mer oligonucleotide, characteristic of HBV DNA, is immobilized via electrodeposited gold nanoparticles on HCS-PANI. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) are used to characterize the electrochemical properties of the prepared nanocomposite. Scanning electron microscopy is employed to investigate the morphological texture of the fabricated modifier. An enhanced intrinsic signal of PANI is probed to evaluate the biosensing ability of the prepared...

Abstract
The present paper describes a voltammetric sensor based on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with a thin film of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) coated with an electro-polymerized layer of titan yellow-doped over–oxidized polypyrrole (OPPY) for the determination of tizanidine (TIZ). A significant enhancement was observed in the anodic peak current of TIZ on the surface of OPPY/CNT/GCE, relative to the bare, CNT- and OPPY-coated GCEs. The microscopic structure and surface morphology of the composite film was thoroughly characterized by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. The effect of various...
Ezafe Recognition Using Dependency Parsing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Shojaei, Razieh (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Ezafe is regarded as one of the most controversial and challenging issues in different Persian Language Processing (NLP) fields. It is recognized and pronounced but usually not written. So, this results in a high degree of ambiguity in Persian texts. Dependency grammar plays a significant role in optimization problems. So, to recognize the position of Ezafe in a sentence, this grammar is used in this current study. This method helps speed up computer operations and use low memory. Within this framework, first we take a close look at Ezafe distribution in Persian text. We use Uppsala Persian Dependency Corpus (2015) to analyze parsed sentences. The Ezafe constructions under study include...
Design and Preparation of a Persian Semantic Corpus Using Abstract Meaning Representation
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Shojaie, Razieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
To keep in line with the day to day advancements in the fields of computational linguistics and natural language processing, and the growing attention of researchers to semantic processing, this thesis presents the design and preparation of a Persian semantic corpus using Abstract Meaning Representation (AMR). This semantic representation pairs each sentence with a single rooted, acyclic, directed graph, which is human and computer readable. Moreover, this representation paves the way for the creation of large semantic corpora. In order to bring such benefits to Persian, in this thesis we present solutions for representing Persian sentences in the framework of AMR. Moreover, a corpus of 150...

Abstract
Risperidone (RIS), one of the typical antipsychotics drugs, originally approved to be used for the mental illness treatment, especially schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism and major depression. In the present study, different carbon nanostructures including functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (F-MWCNTs), carbon nanoparticles, nanodiamond-graphite and reduced graphene oxide were employed for modification of the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for ultrasensitive detection of RIS. The most significant increase in the anodic peak current of RIS was observed on F-MWCNTs-modified electrode (compared to the other modified electrodes and bare GCE). The influence of different...
Persian Causative/Inchoative Alternation from an LFG Perspective
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khosravizadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor) ; Shojaee, Razieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study attempts to describe and analyze Persian speakers’ linguistic knowledge of different types of causative and inchoative constructions within the framework of Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG). In order to do so, different studies on Persian causative alternations within theories other than LFG as well as causative alternations in other languages within LFG are reviewed. Next, different types of causative constructions are categorized conceptually and structurally after they are extracted from Bijankhan corpus (2005). Then they are analyzed syntactically and semantically. In this regard, we represent syntactic and semantic structures based on LFG as a monostratal theory. After that,...
A Semantic Valency Lexicon for Persian Predicates and Visualization of their Relations
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khosravi Zadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor) ; Shojaei, Razieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
The highest and most difficult layer of Natural Language Processing, is the understanding of meaning. As a result, lexicons and annotated corpora are of the utmost importance in this area. However, the lack of such semantic resources, especially in Abstract Meaning Representation (AMR), is one of the main issues in this field for Persian Language. This work by modeling PropBank, a semantic valency lexicon for English predicates, is the first step towards building such lexicons for Persian Language with the focus on AMR. Thus, a guideline describing how to annotate the Persian predicates is provided which first evaluates the common structures between the two languages and then focuses on the...
Application of glassy carbon electrode modified with a carbon nanoparticle/melamine thin film for voltammetric determination of raloxifene

Abstract
As a selective estrogen receptor modulator, raloxifene (RXF) prevent of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women by estrogenic actions on bone and decreases the risk of invasive breast cancer by anti-estrogenic actions on the breast and uterus tissue. However, RXF may increase the risk of blood clots, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. For the first time glassy carbon electrode modified with a thin film of melamine/carbon nanoparticles (CNPs/Mela) was constructed and used for the sensitive voltammetric determination of RXF. In comparison with unmodified electrode, the presence of the CNPs/Mela film resulted in a remarkable increase in the peak currents and sharpness of the...
Specific picomolar detection of a breast cancer biomarker her-2/neu protein in serum: electrocatalytically amplified electroanalysis by the aptamer/peg-modified electrode

Abstract
Specific and sensitive electroanalysis of blood-circulating protein cancer biomarkers is often complicated by interference from serum proteins nonspecifically adsorbing at the biosensing interface and masking specific reactions of interest. Here, we have developed an electrocatalytically amplified assay for specific and sensitive analysis of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2/neu, a protein cancer biomarker over-expressed in breast cancers) that allows us to avoid both the interference from bovine serum albumin (BSA) and electrocatalytic amplification of the signal stemming from the specific aptamer−HER-2/neu binding. A HER-2/neu-specific thiolated aptamer sequence was...
Persian Compound Verb Database with the Verbal Element: “Shodan”
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khosravizadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor) ; Shojaie, Razieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Compound verbs (CVs) and its components, have been widely discussed in previous linguistics' researches as one of the most important and fundamental constructions of Persian language. Nevertheless most of the arguments and assumptions in those researches align with each other and studying CVs from another aspect with a different viewpoint has not been considered very much in order to solve nodes and issues in this area. We have endeavored in this thesis to review and criticize the portrayed definitions of the CVs, reconsider this construction and the syntactical and semantical roles of verbal and non-verbal elements in this combination from another point of view, and revise the previous...
Design and Development of Electrochemical DNA Nanobiosensors for Identification and Determination of Important Biomarkers
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Kalhor, Hamid Reza (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
The main purpose of this Ph.D. Thesis is to develop DNA-based biosensors using Label-free approaches applying simple, inexpensive and fast electrochemical techniques to measure the biological markers of cancer. In the first part, a simple protocol for detection of specific-sequence DNA is introduced. In this method carbon nanotube is used as a hybridization indicator. This label-free system provides the advantage of eliminating additional labeling procedure. As the signal enhances in the presence of MWCNT and decreases in the presence of target, the fabricated sensor is known as a signal-off device. The oxidation signal of Fe(CN)63-/4- is followed as an analytical signal to detect target...
