Application of Adversarial Training in Medical Signals
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Rohban, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent success of Deep Learning models, resulted in their evergrowing application in many fields. However these models usually require huge datasets, which can sometimes be hard to collect. One of the challenges related to medical data, is the Batch Effect; Medical data is usually gathered through multiple experiments. Each experiment might have a slightly different conditions than the other, resulting a shift in the data related to that batch. Batch effects can have more severe impact during testing time, as the shift in the data distribution could be bigger. Many methods have been proposed to reduce or remove the effect of external conditions on data distribution.Deep Learning models have...
A Comparison between Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS)and P2MP IP-only LAN Service (IPLS)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ajorloo, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today Ethernet is the predominant technology for implementing Local Area Networks. Its privileges encourage service providers to extend Ethernet from Local Area Networks to Metropolitan Area Networks or even Wide Area Networks. Ethernet benefits such as low operational costs, well interoperability, plug-n-paly characteristic and rapid provisioning on demand make Ethernet ideal for Metropolitan Area Networks. But Ethernet by itself has some weakness like flat structure that makes it unfit for use in Metropolitan Area Networks. A suitable solution for taking advantages of Ethernet benefits in service provider network is using Ethernet in access network and applying multi-point to multi-point...

(Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent advancement in wireless communications, electronics, low power design and also tendency to use high performance low cost products have led to emergence of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). As the main purpose of a WSN is information gathering and it’s transmission to the sink node, the main problem is to deliver information correctly with minimum energy consumption. Besides, whereas the majority of developed applications for WSNs are event-critical applications, achieving reliable data transfer as the main factor of dependability and quality of service seems vital. However, data transmission is unreliable over multi-hop WSN due to the unreliability of wireless links and node failures. ...
Motion Control of Two Magnetic Microrobots
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nejat, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Microrobots have the potential to access small spaces for manipulation or for acting as a sensor. Magnetic microrobots are the most common types of microrobots. Magnetic microrobots have gained particular traction for medical applications due to safety of tissues. For instance, disease diagnosis, minimally invasive surgery and cell manipulation are potential applications of magnetic microrobots. The performance of a single microrobot could be improved by using multiple robots. For example each microrobot could carry a small payload to a goal inside a microfluidic channel, or could assemble fast and in parallel. In order to employ multiple robots, it is necessary to control each microrobot...

Localization and Control of a Continuum Robot
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Nejat Pishkenari, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Alasty, Aria (Supervisor)
Abstract
Magnetic steering of continuum robots is a promising technology that uses a magnetic field to control the robot without contact and can improve the accessibility, safety, and accuracy of the robot. On the other hand, magnetic localization can also be used as a positioning method without direct line of sight in various applications. Common magnetic localization methods face the challenge of dependence on initial guess, divergence, and high computational cost. In this research, by eliminating the unknowns related to the orientation and rewriting the equations, a new method for magnetic localization has been presented. The advantage of the new method in convergence and increasing the speed of...
Survival Analysis in Iran's Labor Mmarket. with Emphasis on Women's Labor Market
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rahmati, Mohamad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Yousefi, Kowsar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The vulnerability of women in the labor market is a well-established fact, but it can be long-lasting when a shock hits them. We examine women’s labor market conditions in a developing country with a substantial set of cultural norms and provide evidence that a job destructive shock persists longer among women. Specifically, probability of remaining unemployed after 20 months is about 50% for women while it is 10% for men. These findings are exacerbated for women who have not worked for more than 5 years and probably have lost their network or are new entrants in the job market. Moreover, women in the private sector, which is a more competitive market in Iran with respect to public jobs, are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fountain codes enable wireless networks to adapt their transmission rates to the state of the channels, without the need for channel state information (CSI) at the transmitters. According to the following properties of rateless codes, ever increasing parity generation, mutual information receiver, single bit feedback, and information combining receiver, they are good choice for relay networks. In this research, the design of rateless codes for wireless relay networks has been studied. Cross layer issues should be seriously considered when using rateless codes in the packet level. One cross-layer scheme has been developed in this thesis and analysis show that the performance of the proposed...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, extensive use of Hardware Trojan Horses (HTH) or backdoors is more prevalent than ever. We could count disruption, disabling, eavesdropping and sending out internal information as misuse.
In this project, we embed hardware trojan in a Programmable Logic Controller, and present different methods to detect and neutralize them. This is an important issue, as PLCs should work in a safe environment especially in industrial environments while keeping the information intact is significant as even a slight intentional malfunction could cause data to be lost or disclosed, and result in a catastrophe. Subsequently, features of hardware of PLCs should be examined and the right place of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Afshin, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Farhanieh, Bijan (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, due to fires in mines around the world, the need to study the dynamic behavior of fire to understand how it spreads and design an appropriate fire extinguishing system to reduce damage to people and underground facilities has been felt. Mine fires are usually caused by external sources such as cable connections, methane gas explosions, or coal self-ignition due to oxygen uptake and rising temperatures. In this research, using Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) software, after drawing the geometry of a coal tunnel corridor in progress and creating a fire model through pyrolysis of PVC, fire extinguishing was performed by nozzles. If the nozzle does not succeed in extinguishing the...
Modeling of Optimal Design of Solar Collector in Multi-energy Hybrid Systems based on Minimum Exergy Destruction
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor) ; Fathi, Amir Hossein (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Concentrated photovoltaic systems (CPVs) allow simultaneous production of electrical energy and high-temperature thermal energy. These systems consist of a concentrator for collecting solar rays onto the surface of the recipient cells. Moreover, these systems are always facing the sun using a sun tracker. The heat generated by these systems can be used in industrial processes, heating, cooling, and water desalinating. Given the concurrent generation of power and high-temperature heat, it is possible to achieve higher efficiency than that of conventional solar systems. Furthermore, the electrical efficiency is also higher than conventional systems due to the use of multi-junction solar cells...

In this regard a solution containing of 0.05 M H2PtCl6 and 0. 1 M H2SO4 in doubly distilled water was utilized. The electrodeposition process was studied by electrochemical techniques such as voltammetry and chronoamperometry methods. It was observed that the process was conducted in several stages including; nucleation and growth in steady state regime. Furthermore, it was concluded that electrodeposition was affected by mass transport restriction and was controlled by a diffusion process. In this regard, all the voltammograms were shifted to more negative...
Design of Power Amplifier in Ku Band in the Process of GaAs-pHEMT
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Medi, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Power amplifiers are used as the last block of transmitters. This block can be categorized as the one of most important part in communication systems. However, in transmitter systems which require high power to create stable link with the receivers, fabrication process like CMOS are unable to provide such level of power. Thus, designers employ another group of integrated circuits which names MMIC that offers this capability to designers. MMIC is the abbreviation of Microwave Integrated Circuit which is implemented in compound substrates like GaAs. Monolithic microwave integrated circuits enable the implementation of amplifiers in small size, large number, with high precision and appropriate...

Abstract
A 37 dBm power amplifier (PA) is designed on a 0.25 μm optical T-gate pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) technology. The design of this two-stage PA along with a step-by-step design procedure is presented in this paper. This methodology can be used for design of PA in different technologies and frequencies. The PA delivers 5 W output power over the frequency band of 13-19 GHz. It shows average power-added efficiency of 37% and large signal gain of 15 dB in measurements which is consistent with simulation results. The output power and efficiency of the realised amplifier reach maximums of 37.6 dBm and 45%, respectively. Considering output power, bandwidth, chip area and...
Effects of free quartz on mechanical behaviour of kaolinite based geopolymers
, Article Materials Technology ; Volume 26, Issue 2 , Jul , 2011 , Pages 96-99 ; 10667857 (ISSN) ; Majidi, B ; Sharif University of Technology
2011
Abstract
Quartz is usually detected as an impurity of kaolinite clays. The present work attempts to evaluate the role and behaviour of quartz particles in geopolymerisation and its probable effects on mechanical behaviour of geopolymeric products. Two kaolinite clays with different free quartz contents were used as raw materials to produce geopolymers. Results showed that using high content quartz kaolin causes higher compressive strength. Scanning electron microscopy studies confirmed that quartz does not participate in geopolymerisation and completely remains in the structure as fine particles. High hardness quartz particles by retarding crack growth in the geopolymer matrix enhance mechanical...

Abstract
In order to investigaton of dynamics behavior and determination of the aeroelastic stability of the turbomachine blade. the turbomachine blade is modeled by using the beam model, taking into account all degrees of freedom, the effect of warping, rotation and seting angle. For aerodynamic modeling, the Smith and Whitehead models are used which are valid in subsonic flow. The validity of the derived formulation is confirmed through comparison with those obtained from the finite element software and the available results in the literature. Then, by using the state feedback controller, the effect of sensor and piezoelectric actuator on the vibrations reduction of the structure and increasing the...

Abstract
MapReduce and its open source implementation, Hadoop, have gained widespread adoption for parallel processing of big data jobs. Since the number of such big data jobs is also rapidly rising, reducing their energy consumption is increasingly more important to reduce environmental impact as well as operational costs. Prior work by Mashayekhy et al. (IEEE Trans. Parallel Distributed Syst. 26, 2720–2733, 2016), has tackled the problem of energy-aware scheduling of a single MapReduce job but we provide a far more efficient heuristic in this paper. We first model the problem as an Integer Linear Program to find the optimal solution using ILP solvers. Then we present a task-based greedy scheduling...
