Investigation on the Effect of Earthquake loads on Segmental Lining in Tunnel
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sadaghiani, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recently, considerable efforts have been devoted to evaluation of seismic dynamic response of a circular tunnel. Conventional approaches have considered integral liners embedded in an elastic medium. In this study, we model a circular tunnel driven by TMB in homogeneous soil. Tunnel lining with 6 pieces of segments is analyzed by software in three dimensions. The results demonstrate that the stiffness difference between the segment and joints can enhance the internal forces of the segment significantly, which is crucial for the design of segments. The design of tunnel segment joints and joints between tunnels and portal structures are investigated by comparing with different parameters of...
Experimental Analysis and Simulation of Pollution Distribution in Ground Water and Soil
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shayegan, Jalal (Supervisor)
Abstract
Underground water is one of major resources of drinking water in Iran and thus, its quality (in terms of absence of pollutants) is a matter of great importance. The main goal of this research was to investigate the pollution concentration in underground water and soil in two regions: Dasht-e-naz in Sari and the fields near Sarkhoun gas refinery. The second goal was to determine the source and measure the distribution of the pollutants (in case of presence) and determine potential risks caused by them. The first step was to perform experimental tests in the two regions. In Sari's Dasht-e-naz region, a number of wells were chosen for sampling according to the direction of underground water...

Abstract
Ground water is one of major resources of drinking water in Iran and thus, its quality (in terms of absence of pollutants) is a matter of great importance. The main goal of this research was to investigate the pollution concentration in the Ground water and soil in the fields near South Pars Gas Complex Co. (SPGC). The second goal was to determined the source and measure the distribution of the pollutants (in case of presence) and determine potential risks caused by them. The first step was to perform experimental tests in the two regions. In SPGC region, a number of wells were chosen for sampling according to the direction of Ground water movement. All samples were taken using two EPA...
Experimental Removal of Diesel in Soil Using Indigenous Microorganisms Isolated Iran
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kariminia, Hamidreza (Supervisor) ; Yaghmaei, Soheila (Supervisor)
Abstract
Crude oil and petroleum products at the time of extraction, production and transportation cause serious contaminations in soil, water and environment. Biological methods have shown a promising effect for the cleanup of these hydrocarbon pollutants. Bioremediation employs the metabolic activity of microorganisms capable of using oil as their energy and carbon source. Biological methods are also less expensive than other cleanup technologies such as incineration and landfill. Large number of microbial stains have been discovered in nature, capable to degrade oil and petroleum products. Biological cleaning of oil contamination by microorganisms occurs naturally in the environment. It has been...
Biological Treatment of Drug Wastewater with Focus on Cyanide Compound
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Yaghmaei, Soheyla (Supervisor) ; Rustaazad, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
HCN is a highly valuable precursor to many chemical compounds ranging from polymers to pharmaceutical. Although cyanide can be destroyed and recovered by several processes, it is still widely discussed and examined due to its potential toxicity and environmental impact. The treatment methods for cyanide in common use today are physicochemical processes which have high operating costs and also produce chemical waste. Recently, biological processes have been studied because they are inexpensive and no effect to the environment. Therefore to achieve this object, Stimulation of indigenous microorganisms for waste degradation is a common technology. The process effluent from the gold extraction...
Investigation of Dynamic Response of Soil Exposed to Surface Explosion Pressure Waves
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farhanieh, Bijan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Explosion in soil medium have been a favourite topic for researchers From many years ago. however Most of researchs studied the impact of surface explosion on Perimeter environment (like mine explosion) and effect of the parameters like soil material and water content on pressure waves progressing inside of soil have been lees paid attention. In present work firstly we derive the data necessary for soil dynamic response computer modelling using different soil models from various resources. Then the impact of surface explosion will be investigated soil internally, using Ansys Autodyn numerical modelling. Results show that with an increase in soil water content, pressure wave peak overpressure...
