Synthesis and Characterization of TiO2 Based on Carbon (Activated Carbon and Carbon Nanotube) and Investigation of its Catalytic Activity on Environmental Pollutions

- Pure NanoParticles of TiO2 and Nanocomposite catalysts of TiO2 , activated carbon (TiO2/AC) and multi-walled carbon nanotube (TiO2/MWCNT) were prepared by a sol –Gel method using TetraisoPropylorthotitanat (Tipt) as a precursor. The catalysts were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance uv-vis spectroscopy (DRS) and N2 adsorption – desorption measurements. The photoactivity of samples was evaluated by Acid Blue 92 (AB 92) degradation. The analysis results show that compared with pure Nanoparticles of TiO2, the spherical – shaped TiO2 particles are well – dispersed in TiO2/AC. In TiO2/MWCNT, the coating has special mechanism that causes the formation of a uniform layer of Titanium dioxide particles on carbon nanotube. influence of activated carbon size on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/AC Nanocomposites was investigated by two types of activated carbon, AC1 (mesh 100) and AC2 (mesh 35-50).The size of resulting TiO2 crystallites decreases for 30nm for pure TiO2 to 12nm, 15nm and 7nm in TiO2/AC1 , TiO2/AC2 and TiO2/MWCNT respectively. AC and MWCNT in composites were postponed the anatase to rutile phase transition with increase of the calcination temperature .Also cumber the TiO2 particles to agglomerate.The composites have high surface areas Compare to pure nanoparticles of TiO2 . The band gap of TiO2 is clearly less than those of the composites. A large Band gap corresponds to more powerful redox ability. The optimized conditions have been determined for photo catalytic reactions. TiO2/MWCNT (%6 MWCNT) shows the best photoactivity for degradation of Acid Blue 92. Before and after of reaction, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) was determined wich used to measure the organic strength of color solution ) efficiency is %86 (. Above – mentioned catalyst shows an effective photodegradation on a waste water sample was provided from textile industry.
