  7. Abstract:
  8. Since steady state behavior of a plant is affected by the change of various inputs to the plant, the transient behavior of the chemical plants are also very important in their general performance. On the other hand, catalytic hydrotreating is one of the most important processes in crude oil refining process in many aspects such as economical, technical and environmental. Thus, the goal of this project was dynamic simulation and control of catalytic hydrotreating unit (UNIFINER Unit) of Tehran Refinery with using the HYSYS software. To fulfill this target, data that were necessary for simulation were gathered from Unifiner unit of Tehran refinery at first. Then, steady state simulation of the unit was done with using these data and HYSYS software before doing dynamic simulation. For doing steady state simulation of the unit, components which exist in this process were determined by using the unit’s data and some information from the other science resources at first. Then, it is found that the thermodynamic package of Peng Robinson was the most efficient thermodynamic model for doing the simulation. Furthermore, there was a little information about the desulfurization from the Naphtha feed and because of that all reactions were considered in the form of conversion reactions. In final, steady state simulation was done considering these cases and comparison between the results of this simulation and the unit’s data showed the acceptable precise of the simulation. Having done steady state simulation, dynamic simulation of the plant was done by using the unit’s data and the steady state simulation results. In this simulation mode, all controllers were considered as PI controllers and their parameters were obtained by trial and error. Dynamic simulation results for performance of controllers for set point tracking and load rejection showed acceptable results of dynamic simulation of the catalytic hydrotreating unit.
