  8. Switched Parasitic Antennas, as a kind of Smart Antennas, have several applications in Telecommunications and Radar systems. In the realm of wireless applications, these antennas provide the system with higher capacity owning to the fact that they are able to direct the main beam toward the desirable user. Moreover, they can be used to degrade the adverse effects of Multi-path. Multi-path reduction not only benefits mobile communication but applies to many applications of radar systems. These antennas, in addition, can be utilized in Direction Finding. In the case of other types of Smart Antennas, the above mentioned benefits can be achieved with high costs due to the fact that there are a myriad of active elements. Huge number of active elements means great number of power dividers and phase-shifter and complicated transmission line structure. Besides, the controlling unit has to do a lot of processing which decrease the speed of antenna. Notwithstanding, in the case of switched parasitic antennas these problems are totally done. As in the switched parasitic antennas arrays there is only one active element, the system structure is extremely simple and as a result, the cost is very low. In this thesis, switched parasitic antennas are concerned. First, the basic is explained. In the following the applications of these antennas is illustrated. Switched parasitic antenna with circular structure is analyzed and simulated. Circular switched parasitic array with one central active element is analyzed and simulated. Finally, a two-dimensional qusi-Yagi array with one active element and good radiation pattern with 10dB gain is designed and simulated
