  7. Abstract:
  8. Manufacturing environments has changed in recent decades. Today’s it has specification such as shorten life cycle of products, decrease new product design and manufacturing cycle, increase flexibility, decrease response time for market demands and increase competitive level among manufacturers. For achieve this specification integration of CAD, CAPP and CAM is essential. Process planning is important in manufacturing systems so that down stream activity costs and optimality depends on process plans. To develop a process plan for a prismatic part it is required to interpret part design data; select manufacturing processes; select machines, tools and fixtures; decompose the material volume to be removed; select machining and manufacturing features, generate precedence constraints and to do sequencing of manufacturing features. Feature recognition or FR done in first phase of process planning through FR techniques such as hint-based approaches, volumetric decomposition approaches, graph-based approaches, attribute base approaches, knowledge-based approaches and other hybrid approaches. By applying FR techniques machinable volumes or machining features are determine. FR plays important role in automation of process planning and optimization of down stream phases of process planning and CAM. Unfortunately in industrial environment developing and determination of machining features as results of FR are done by experts through knowledge based systems and it needs human interventions. Generation of limited number of machining features, which is often performed by experts, in the one hand may miss the optimal solution and increase time and costs of developing process. In this thesis two heuristic models, Modified Combination Model (MCM) based on combination procedure and Flower Pollinating by artificial bees (FPAB) are developed and implemented to determine machining features. The proposed models are used to develop, assess and determine machining features. The numerical results of solving problems show that proposed models has good performance in MVDP problems.
