  7. Abstract:
  8. This thesis focuses on the design procedures of a Type Test tunnel intended to be used for performance verification of large electrical generator air to water coolers with a dimension of 3*3 meters. Using guidelines of related standards the tunnel was designed and modified to satisfy the requirements set by installation site and manufacturing limitations. As this required some deviations from standard guide lines, the correctness of the final design was evaluated using numerical computation of flow inside the tunnel. The tunnel structure and its internal parts were analyzed for strength and deflections. Using the results of numerical computations, the other main equipments of tunnel such as: fans, water circuits, steam circuit, Electrical and control equipments were carefully designed and their component specifications were obtained. The tunnel was then designed in detail and the manufacturing and installation drawings were drawn. The tunnel manufacturing will start before the end of this year and will be installed at site. The tunnel has 30 m length, 4 m width, and 5 m height with total blowing power of 160 kW, and it is a unique prototype in its kind in Iran. The funding for this research was provided by Mapna Co. under the contract number RD-88-11 between Mapna and Sharif University of Technology.
