- Abstract:
- Multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon black (CB) reinforced polypropylene/polyamide6 (75/25) nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding approach. Polypropylene grafted with maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA) was used as compatibilizer. Different amount of fillers were introduced into the polymer blends. The morphology, mechanical, rheological properties and crystallization behavior of the composites were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to study the microstructure. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results showed that the addition of MWNT or CB to PP/PA6 blend resultes increase in crystallinity degree of PA6. The fillers were found to be located preferentially in the PA6 phase and the interphase of PA6 and PP phases, but some of them were found in PP phase. The complex viscosity, storage modulus and loss modulus of composites increased with addition of fillers. It was inferred from dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) results that the corporation of 2Phr (parts per hundered resin) fillers enhanced the storage modulus, but further increasing of fillers, resulted in the decrease of storage modulus. Results revealed that the enhancement in mechanical and rheological properties by carbon black reinforced blends was more significant than MWCNTs
