  7. Abstract:
  8. Sulfur compounds are very undesirable and result in Corrosion in metal equipment, air pollutions and poisoning of refinery Catalysts such as reforming Catalyst. Therefore, application of Hydrodesulfurization (HDS) process in order to decrease the amount of sulfur in petroleum cuts has a great importance. HDS process is the most usual and efficientmethod for sulfur removal. In this method sulfur compounds at vigorous operating conditions such as high temperature and pressure in the presence of catalyst react with hydrogen and produce hydrogen disulfide and hydrocarbon. Sulfided Co–Mo catalysts are widely used in this process.
The aim of this study is to prepare and improve CoMo/γ-Al2O3 Catalyst and investigate the kinetics of HDS reaction as well as synthesis process scale up and economical estimation. In order to study the activity of catalysts, some of them were tested in HDSprocess of Naphta. The effect of four process variables including: temperature, H2S, H2 and Dibenzothiophene Concentration as well as their interactions were modeled.Due to time saving and less cost, Design Expert (DEX) software was used for system analyzing by employing response surface methodology (RSM). In this study central composite design (CCD) at five level combined with RSM have been applied to find optimum conditions. Three quadratic governing equations for each of hydrogenolysis, hydrogenation and disappearance of dibenzothiophene reactions were obtained, which were properly fitted to obtained experimental rate data. The determined R2 values greater than 0.95 for the three rate equations was coincident with the experimental data. Using the RSM, the optimum conditions of reactor test of HDS process for temperature, H2S Concentration, H2 Concentration and Dibenzothiophene Concentration were obtained as 576 K, 0.009 Kmol/m3, 0.102 Kmol/m3 and 0.071 Kmol/m3 , respectively
