  7. Abstract:
  8. Wind has been shown to be one of the fastest growing sources of energy among renewable energy resources during recent decades. Widespread utilization of wind power during recent years imposes considerable effects on modern power systems in which the renewable energy supplies are included. Also power systems reliability evaluations have received significant attentions during recent years so studying wind farm's reliability would be of great importance in modern power systems whether it is studied as a part of the power grid or as an isolated system. In addition, the competitive environment of the power markets thrusts the power suppliers to follow the most economical patterns of operation, maintenance or enhancement of wind farms in order to lower their costs and to increase their profits which in case has several technical and economical complications. So a study in which both economical aspects of a wind farm exploitation and its reliability evaluation issues are included may be extremely beneficiary for wind farm owners.Among the many vital decisions that a wind farm exploiter may take, managing the number of turbine spare parts could be a prominent one due to their great influences on most of the farm's reliability indices, on the farm's annual production and hence on the farm's economical profile and also on the farm's overall costs. In this project, a reliability evaluation approach for wind turbines is presented, a farm's production estimation algorithm is developed, a farm's economical evaluation is performed and an optimal spare parts managing program is developed. Actual data derived from a new established wind farm in Khaf are widely used throughout the project, for the reliability evaluation, production estimation and also economical assessment sections. The models and programs are exclusively generated for Khaf wind farm as the main case study
