- Abstract:
- Since oil prices continue to increase, energy conservation remains the prime industrial concern. Existing processes in power plants and oil refineries are not energy efficient as they should be therefore new projects can be defined to increase the energy efficiency without incurring any cost. The most appropriate utility for the processes should be explored to reduce emissions, increase the plant capacities and improve product qualities and energy efficiencies by one coherent strategic plan for the overall site which can be achieved by a full understanding of pinch technology and awareness of the available tools for applying it in practical way. Since the distillation unit of crude oil consumes energy further than other refinery units and as the main unit, any capacity rise and altering the production unit, demands provision of needed feed for distillation unit, and the implementation of advanced technologies are immensely essential.
A sophisticated analysis of the system with the assistance of innovation, economical profitability and also process modification can make development in efficiencies. Consequently, modification and controlling the process, reduction of wasted energy, profit augmentation and ultimately optimization in operation efficiency will be created. In the current study, the design of the heat exchangers of distillation unit of Bandar Abbas oil refinery is evaluated and modified by means of pinch technology. In this modification, the number of the heat exchangers in the unit is reduced from 24 to 14, and an amount of about 8 MW of energy is saved compared to the previous design. This saved energy is suggested to be used inside the unit to produce low pressure steam which is needed for heating some streams in the unit. Apart from that, the temperature of the de-salter is raised from 135˚C to 160˚C, as well as the temperature of the furnace inlet which is raised from 279˚C to 310˚C using Aspen Pinch software and proper configuration is presented in order to diminish the energy consumption and the cost - Keywords:
