  7. Abstract:
  8. In recent years, one of the important and challenging issues that has drawn many engineers’ attention is the system reliability. Generally, the possibility of the system’s satisfactory performance under specified operating conditions, for a given period of time, is defined as the System Reliability. Analytical and Simulation methods are two main reliability techniques. In the Analytical technique, mathematical models with some simplification are applied, whereas the Simulation technique utilizes significant number of experiments which are extremely costly and time-consuming. In spite of carrying out analytical methods for proving results, simulation is carried out in different analyses problems.
Nowadays, the Reliability Engineering is widely used in many aspects of engineering such as aerospace, automotive and power-plants industries. In this study, reliability and failure probability of a damaged structure have been investigated by First Order Reliability Method (FORM) and the damaged structure has been modeled based on the stress intensity factor and LEFM concepts. The numerical results from FORM have been verified by Monte-Carlo simulation. Finally, the effects of random variables such as crack length, applied stress and fracture toughness along with parameters such as damage geometries, quantity of damage and modes of fracture on the reliability of the structure, have been investigated
