- Abstract:
- Nanotechnology is an emerging field in technology that exploits the chemical and physical properties created by careful manipulation of materials at atomic and molecular levels. These properties lead to abilities created by this technology, which many scientists regard as the next industrial revolution. Although Nanotechnology promises bright future, today, researchers having learned from the history of technology are trying to predict its unwanted aspects and negative effects to decrease its potential issues. Researchers of Nano-ethics are trying to enable us to encounter Nanotechnology’s achievements in a reasonable way, by studying its ethical and social obligations. Since in our country, Iran, thinking about the ethical consequences of Nanotechnology is almost completely unnoticed, the first priority of this thesis is to discuss the challenges and some of the fundamental questions in the field of Nanotechnology ethics, which is currently prevalent at global level. In the first chapter of this study, the history of technology ethics will be reviewed. Then, the importance and independence of Nano ethics will be discussed. The second chapter will present the ethical challenges of Nanotechnology, which are currently discussed at global level. These challenges are mostly related to six areas of environment, medicine, military, privacy, developing countries, and regulations. The third chapter is an effort to evaluate and provide good suggestions for ethical challenges of Nanotechnology. Therefore, at first, the classic theories of ethics used in the field of Nanotechnology will be examined. Then, the concept of uncertainty in emerging technologies, which makes ethical evaluations faulty and defective, will be presented. Then some recent efforts in the face of uncertainty will be criticized and a new approach in this field will be presented
