  7. Abstract:
  8. Minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) is a key parameter for successful gas injection process in the oil reservoirs for more oil recovery. This parameter is critically dependent on the reservoir condition such as temperature, reservoir and injection gas composition. There are many techniques used in the literature for MMP measurement. Vanishing interfacial tension (VIT) has been proposed recently and was used successfully to predict the MMP through pendant drop technique. This technique is used in this study to measure the MMP for Nitrogen/Carbon dioxide and water in oil emulsion fluids; then compare it to the original crude oil without water droplets. This would demonstrate the effects of emulsified water in oil on the minimum miscibility pressures of these two popular gases to be injected in the crude oil reservoirs. For the case of CO2 injection, the results showed that at high pressure, the surface tension was increased with temperature while for low pressure condition; the surface tension was decreased as the temperature increased. Besides, the results for emulsion oil showed that the surface tension and MMP were increased for higher water in oil emulsions. As it was predicted the MMP of carbon dioxides was higher at high temperature condition. On the other hand for the case of N2 injection, the results showed that as temperature increases, the surface tension decreases linearly in all examined pressure domains. Besides, the results for emulsion oil showed that the surface tension and MMP were increased substantially for higher content of water in emulsions. The results showed that MMP during N2 injection is much higher than that of CO2 injection. Beside the experimental section, two empirical correlations for MMP estimation during N2 and CO2 injection have been developed. Reliability of proposed correlations with other famous previously developed correlations through graphical and statistical error analysis has been checked. The results of MMP modeling during CO2 injection demonstrated higher accuracy of proposed correlation than previously developed correlations because of comprehensive data bank employed in development of new correlation. Also, wider range of independent parameters that covered by comprehensive data bank, leads to wider range of applicability. The results of MMP modeling during N2 injection showed that, impurity of injection gas highly influences on MMP. Considering impurity of injection gas in proposed model causes more ability of proposed model in MMP estimation than previously developed correlations. On the other hand wider range of independent parameters, leads to wider range of applicability for newly developed correlation
