- Abstract:
- Using thick plates is common in different industries including ship and pressure vessel manufacturing. In this research a plate forming method called line heating is examined. This method requires basic equipment and is very economical.Heat transfer between gas torch and plate is studied in more detail. Impingement jet model is used to simulate the effect of torch on plate. Velocity and temperature fields of exiting air are calculated in Fluent, a commercial software. Then heat is transferred between hot air and plate, which is related to velocity field and both temperature distribution of air and plate. In this method torch moves along the plate. In order to simulate this movement, a moving boundary condition is needed for which the sliding mesh method is used. After calculating temperature distribution during the process, including heating and cooling, this distribution is saved and transferred to Ansys, another commercial software, for doing a thermo elasto-plastic analysis. At the end, alteration of the plate is achieved. Results are compared to and validated with an experimental test and works of others. A comparison between impingement jet modeling and Gaussian distribution is done. The conclusion is that using gauss model along with more accurate monitoring of temperature is more suitable for simulating the process. In the end, edge effect, effective parameters and double line pass are studied
