Preparation and Characterization of Unsaturated Polyester Resin/Nanodiamond Nanocomposites

  8. In recent decades, nano-structured materials have been allocated specific position for wide use in various fields. The nano-diamonds has attracted the attention of many researchers. The inherent characteristics of a diamond like spherical structure of nanoparticles and carbon atoms which have used their full capacity in the chemical bonds,also the same surface as the radiography particles which have empty orbital, provides an ability to perform a variety of surface modification on the particle . This article introduces the nanocomposites based on polymer, constituents specification and discuss properties of nanocomposites after mixing components together. Lots of studies was on nanocomposites based on unsaturated polyester but so far, the diamonds nanoparticles do not use to strengthen the polymer phase. To improve the dispersion of nanoparticles in the polymer matrix, the nanoparticles with carboxyl functional groups and 2-hydroxy ethyl – methacrylate was modified. Dumbbell-shaped samples of nanocomposites based on unsaturated polyester and carboxylated nano-diamond of 3 percent by weight was made and tensile test was performed for mechanical properties evaluation. The results show improvement tensile strength in the 0.1% by weight carboxylated nanodiamonds samples. It seems increase the percentage of nanoparticles, more likely to control agglomeration and properties will be drop. Further tests DMTA, DSC, Rheological and FESEM also was did to study the structure and impact of the presence of nano diamond in the curing reaction and dynamic mechanical properties. Significantly is the a considerable impact of nanodiamonds in the curing reaction. As well as storage modulus of nanocomposites at a rate of 34.48% recovered
