- Abstract:
- Present research focuses on providing a reasonable solution for separation control through arrays of discrete wall jets. In this thesis, quasi-radial wall jet actuators have been introduced and theirs application in separation control (boundary layer control) have been investigated for the first time. This study includes two phases. The first phase is dedicated to investigation of physics and functional nature of wall jet actuators. In this phase, using numerical simulations, wall jet actuators in different situations have been studied and it was shown that arrays of quasi-radial jets have better performance than arrays of three-dimensional jets in creating a combine two-dimensional wall jet. In the second phase, application of quasi-radial wall jet actuators in separation control over a wing has been studied. Results showed that, if the corresponding parameters picked properly, arrays of quasi-radial wall jets cause a significant decrees in wake region size and provide a grate increase in wing aerodynamic performance. Using arrays of quasi-radial wall jets for three space-ratios of 10, 20 and 30 with spreading angle of 90 degrees, results in 46%, 42% and 34% lift increment correspondingly. Also, due to elimination of wake region, drag decreases by 52%, 43% and 30% for these three nozzles arrangements. Eventually, the proposed approach could yield up to three times increase in the aerodynamic efficiency of the wing
