- Abstract:
- As human societies develop and get more complex, the trend of social media changes to satisfy the more specialized needs of its users. Community-based Question and Answering sites are examples of very successful cases of those social media which respond to users’ pecialized needs. The survival of these Community-based Question and Answering sites do heavily depends on the voluntary contributions of their users. Hence, many of these Community-based Question and Answering sites apply gamification tools such as badges, points and reputation to prevent users’ churn and also to incentive new comers to participate in site-activities. The main purpose of this research is to investigate if the gamification tools bear an impact over a user’s behavior. To this end, we have first analyzed the impact of gamification tools on users’ churn problem. Next, we have applied a prominent psychological theory called ”Flow Theory” to elicit a user’s mental disposition which we hold the first place to quantify in a gamified CQA site. Applying these features which are derived from a user’s mental state and his records of gamification tools, have been proved in this research work to enhance churn predictions. In the last, we have suggested a model for temporal transitions of a user’s mental states. An application of this model may be to enhance steerings and controls of users’ behavior through a proper use of gamification tools. Throughout this research, a dataset which we have collected from StackOverflow is used to conduct and evaluate our experiments
