  8. In this study, the problem of pricing and inventory control for non-instantaneous deteriorating items with two separate warehouses is considered. One warehouse is owned and the other one is rented. The rented one has a higher holding cost due to better preserving facilities. In the literature, a common assumption is that the deterioration of items starts at the instant of their arrival, while in fact the majority of goods have a short time span for maintaining quality or original condition, during which no deterioration occurs. For non-instantaneous deteriorating items, the common assumptions may lead to the overvaluation of the total annual relevant inventory cost. In the present study a model is developed in which shortage is allowed and partially backlogged, a price dependent demand function is adopted and promotional efforts are considered, to reflect a more real situation. The objective is to determine the optimal selling price, the optimal replenishment schedule and the optimal order quantity simultaneously, such that, the total profit is maximized. We present two solution methods. The first one applies a system of three equations simultaneously. The other one is an algorithm which improves the objective function repetitively. To illustrate the solution procedure and the algorithm, two numerical examples are presented. Finally, we extend the numerical examples by performing a sensitivity analysis of the parameters and discuss specific managerial insights
