  7. Abstract:
  8. The purpose of carrying out this Master thesis is to detect occurrence of CT saturation which leads to consecutive failures in operation of protective current transformers, as a major component in protection of power systems. The protective relay installed in the secondary side of the protective CT fails to act properly under occurrence of this phenomenon, and it doesn’t reflect proportionally the high value of fault currents passing through CT’s primary winding. As a consequence, faults become undetectable. Meanwhile, the proposed methods for detection of CT saturation must be reliable under a noisy condition, realizing that power systems have some inherent noises always available in the system (either due to electromagnetic inductions or occurrence of transient phenomena). The related proposed method of this thesis is novel. In the 2nd section of the thesis work, the goal is to reconstruct CT’s secondary current after detecting CT saturation via a novel method accompanied by having the B-H curve of the availiable CT. In other words, the CT is compensated properly through a novel approach. In the last section of the thesis, the proposed methods are validated through some simulations in MATLAB. At the same time, the performances of these methods are analyzed under noisy conditions
