  7. Abstract:
  8. Collapsible soils, a kind of which is Loess, are mainly in silt size in the nature, and are present in many part of Iran, such as Golestan, Semnan, Khorasan, Yazd, Kerman, Hormozgan, Sistan and Balouchestan provinces. when the water content of the soil is lower than a critical water content, the soil shows high shear strength. However, increase in water content due to leakage of water, wastewater or heavy rains in the presence of enough induced pressure, when a certain coupled hydro-mechanical condition is reached, will result in a sudden collapse or excessive deformation. Hence, improvement or stabilization of this kind of soil is of high importance. In this research, specimens are prepared form Hezar Pich hills in Gorgan. Effect of Nano-Silica, Nano-Clay, and Nano- Calcium Carbonate on stabilization of Gorgan Loess has been studied. To evaluate the stabilization of the soil, unconfined compression and consolidation tests are performed on stabilized specimens and the results are compared to those of untreated soils. Results show that adding a small amount of Nano-material would increase the strength of the soils. This increase in strength is due to bonding between soil particles and active Nano-Materials. Eventually, the injection of Nano-material and stabilization with electrokinetic method, which is used for migration of Nano-particles in the soil, has been studied
