- Abstract:
- Religious science, its nature, possibility, and the mechanism of achievement have come to the fore in recent years. In this thesis, Javadi Amoli’s and Golshani’s theories are compared in this respect. Javadi Amoli begins by situating the reason, and certain knowledge as its product, in the architecture of religious knowledge. Since this kind of knowledge unveils divine action, Amoli counts it as already divine in nature. Therefore, there would be no conflict between science and religion in principle, unless atheist scientists insist on drawing non-empirical conclusions from sciences. Other conflicts too are superficial and resolvable. Amoli sees the fault of current sciences, which should be resolved, in disregarding the immaterial causes behind the scene of material causal mechanisms. Finally, he proposes some solutions for Islamization of sciences. By paying attention to the history of sciences, Mehdi Golshani thinks that the role of metaphysical presuppositions in them has been highly influential. He believes that the theistic worldview, by guiding these metaphysical presuppositions, can change the path of sciences towards divinity. For Golshani, Islam has advised to acquire sciences and has introduced the legitimate sources of human knowledge. He ultimately sees the unification of world-views prevalent in Islamic seminaries and universities as necessary for filling the gap between these two epistemic institutions. In spite of differences in terminology and jargons, similarities between these two theories abound and they can complement each other. After discussing and criticizing each theory, the author tries to answer the critiques within the confines of each theory. Finally, by a comparison between them, the points of similarities and differences between these two theories are discussed
