- Abstract:
- Humic compounds are considered the most portion of natural organic matter (NOM) found in many surface water sources.Humic substances have been known as precursors to disinfection by-products.because conventional treatment process can not meet disinfection by-product standards, novel method have been increasingly applied for the removal of disinfection by-products precursors.The〖UV/TiO〗_2 process is one of the advanced oxidation process using the photocatalytic technology. The most important advantages of this process are its stability and high efficiency removal. The present study aims to investigate the effect of 〖UV/TiO〗_2photo-catalytic technology on removal of humic substances. In this study photocatalytic degradation of Humic acids by nano〖TiO〗_2 particles coated on perlite as a new composite nano-catalyst was investigated.Titanium dioxide (Degussa p-25) was immobilised on perlite by a dip coating method. XRD and SEM analyze was carried out for characterization including anatase and rotile phases , crystal size and well and uniform coating of TiO_2on supports were confirmed by SEM method.A pilot consist of four quartz pipes packed with perlites coated with TiO2 have been investigated for removal of HA from synthetic solution of HA in different modes by photocatalytic reaction. Each of the samples taken from the 〖UV/TiO〗_2process and other process studied were analyzed for their HA concentration , UV_254Absorbance by Spectrophotometer at 254nm.In the first stage, the performance of these columns have been investigated using methyl orange index. In the next steps the HA removal have been studie and the effect of key parameters such as PH, additional oxidant, initial concentration of HA, contact time and light intensity were investigated. In the experiment on methyl orange decreased concentration from 10 mg/l to 2.24 mg/l within 2 hours. The efficiency of this system was a bout 93%, 96% ,98.2% for the initial HA concentration of 10,5,2 mg/l. It may be concluded that the UV/TiO2 process can provide desirable drinking water quality in terms of humic substances content
