  7. Abstract:
  8. By increasing the penetration of distributed generation (DG) technologies such as photovoltaiec, μCHP etc, power generation system is moving from a centralized network to a distributed scheme with different generation units at lower level of voltage. This trend will provide the opportunity for cosumers to make decision when and which source of energy to use, due to the owner’s objectives. Here, to investigate these aspects, we use the energy hub framework, considering different energy carrier networks, DGs and storage devices. In this thesis, we model and simulate an energy system containing three interconnected energy hubs, which serve as interface between suppliers and consummers. In an ideal situation, it is possible to control a system of interconnected hubs using a central scheme. However, when the system is scaled up to a network of many interconnected hub, it is not possible to use central scheme to control this system due to technical and organizational limits. Here we propose a cooperative game approach to decompose the large-scale problem to some smaller sub-problems which could be solved by in-charge agents (players). The proposed decomposition framework is based on Optimality Condition Decomposition (OCD) methodology which has been extended for situation including dynamics. To investigate the performance of proposed competition algorithm, a three-interconnected hub system has been considered; all operational and capacity constraints of production, storage and transmission devices between the hubs are formulated. Finally, we compare the results of proposed method to those of central control scheme. Simulations indicate that applying the competition approach, results a cooperating behavior between control agents. The agents converge to the centralized solution or to results close to it. In this system, supplying energy cost increased by around 0.4 percent. Demand of electricity and Natural gas increased 0.3 and 0.9 percent respectively. However the computation time decreased 10 percent and could decrease more for bigger systems
