  7. Abstract:
  8. In order to test the performance of engines used at high altitudes, a vacuum simulator system is used. In the vacuum test stand the supersonic exhaust diffuser is used to create the vacuum conditions and the automatic discharge of combustion gases into the atmosphere. usually, the exhaust gas temperature of the engine nozzle is much higher than the temperature that steel body of diffuser can stand (above 2500 K). The purpose of this study is to design and analyze a cooling system to protect the diffusers body. In this study, first by comparing different cooling methods, a spray-cooled water treatment method has been selected for the problem. A new algorithm for designing a spray cooling system for diffuser body spray has been proposed. Then, the parameters affecting the performance of the water spray system are investigated. The present study shows that parameters such as spray pressure, nozzle diameter, and nozzle height from the cooled surface have a significant effect on the performance of the cooling system, and the optimal amount of these parameters can be selected based on the design purpose. In the next section, a design example of the diffuser and the cooling system for a particular engine is done. In the final section, results of the design of the cooling system were analyzed by numerical methods and it was shown that the system designed with the help of algorithm will maintain the temperature of the diffuser surface at the desired temperature
