- Abstract:
- In this study, gelatin/polyvinylpyrrolidone semi interpenetrating polymer network scaffold was synthesized in presence of glutaraldehyde as a cross linker and a porous structure was obtained by freeze drying method. The biocompatible network with properties like huge porosity, good thermal stability and establishing different interactions, was employed as an extractive phase in needle trap device and used for evaluation of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) in conjugation with gas chromatography-flame ionization detector. For investigating semi interpenetrating polymer network efficiency, Different ratios of gelatin and polyvinylpyrrolidone (gelatin/polyvinylpyrrolidone: 1:0, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 0:1) were synthesized and the 1:2 ratio was selected as the optimum sorbent. To achieve maximum efficiency and sensitivity, influential parameters including desorption time and temperature as well as ionic strenght, the headspace flow rate through the sorbent bed, extraction temperature and time were investigated and optimized. Dynamic linear range was in the range of 160-750 µg L-1 for benzene and 3-750 µg L-1 for other analytes. The limit of detection values were 54 µg L-1 for benzene and 1 µg L-1 for other analytes. The relative standard deviations for three replicates were in the range of 1–7%. The prepared semi-IPN was applied for analyzing different environmental samples such as Asaloyeh drinking water, Asaloyeh petrochemical industrial plant water and Tehran oil refinery industrial plant water. Relative recoveries for the spiked samples at two concentration levels of 250 and 500 µg L-1 were obtained in the range of 81-120. Also, for investigating BTEX in cosmetics, an eyeliner and a mascara samples were analyzed by standard addition method confirmed the presence of the analytes
