- Abstract:
- Industrial parks represent integrated industrial systems where it helps implementing efficient measures for managing natural and fossil fuel resources and their impact on environment quality. In Iran, the most industrial parks have faced serious problems due to the irreversible effects on ecosystems. mass/energy flows management and optimization based on industrial ecology, can lead to minimizing the environmental impacts and to maximizing the value added of industrial parks simultaneously. In the present research, sustainable development in Siri island as Eco-industrial park in Iran has been investigated. The island includes: extraction, separation, operation and transportation of crude oil and natural gas, power plants, water treatmemnt and desalination into supply chain and household, transport and export into demand chain. The integrated energy and environment management model represents water, energy and carbon dioxide as the main chains and it has been extend to a superstructure model which could be applied for assessing the application of new technologies and renewable energy resources in the island in long term. Based on the results of the present study, oil export that is the most important economic activity of Siri island has a declining trend in 2015-2060. This trend would lead to diminishing economic advantage of Siri industrial park. It is therefore necessary to identify an alternative option for further development of island in the long term. The conclusion of the present research work indicates that introduction of structural changes in island and encouraging development of ecotourism through allocation of a part of oil revenue to sustainability and resilience and local environment is required urgently. The results of analysis reveals that if 1.6% of oil evenue from export of resources from island is allocated to development of ecotourism, it would be possible to establish a solid and reliable infrastructure for further development of eco tourism and its economic achievements would enable substitution of present diminishing economic output with sustainable income from activities that shall also be compatible with environment
