- Abstract:
- Most used polymers, such as hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, are not able to withstand high levels of salinity and high temperature of the reservoirs. To overcome these problems, in this project, new types of microstructures based on modified acrylamide with hydrophilic groups (malic anhydride monomer) and hydrophobic groups (styrene monomer) using inversible mini-emulsion were synthesized. The structure of the synthesized terpolymer was investigated using methods of FT-IR and 1H NMR. The micro-structure and the particle-size of the terpolymer particles were studied with the scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and differential light scattering (DLS) method and the results showed that the average particle size of 10 μm for synthesized terpolymer and 20 nanometer for the silica nanoparticles. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed a completely amorphous structure for terpolymer samples. As well, the rheological properties and behavior of the synthesized terpolymer solution under high temperature and salinity conditions using rotary viscometer and rheometric measurements spectrum (RMS). The intrinsic viscosity was measured using Ubbelhode capillary viscometer and then via Mark-Houwink equation the molecular weight of the terpolymer approximately was calculated. The molecular weight also was calculated thorough gel permeation chromatography (GPC) with the value of 10.6 million Daltons. The synthesized terpolymer not only showed resistant to ions, but also with increasing salinity, viscosity increased. Also, the terpolymer containing silica nanoparticles showed the higher viscosity. Finally, the oil recovery factor of (RF) during polymer flooding was calculated for synthesized terpolymer solution with a micro-model microscope test. The results of the micro-model test indicated an appropriate RF for the synthesized terpolymer. Water-based drilling muds were prepared and shear stress depend on the shear rate of the muds obtained from rotary viscometer showed that adding terpolymer to the mud, changed the Newtonian behavior to the power law. In this project, the anti-corrosion properties of drilling mud containing terpolymer were carried out using electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS) and polarization measurements polymer-based drilling mud. The results showed that for samples containing terpolymer content with increasing the exposure time, the corrosion resistance increases and this resistance is higher for the synthesized terpolymer
