  7. Abstract:
  8. This study aims to investigate the productivity of foreign construction labours as compared to their local counterpart employed in Kish Free Trade and Industry Zone. Moreover, this study compares work skills and experience of foreign and local construction workers in order to find their effects on construction working conditions. To date, there is no comprehensive study that explores the important critical factors in mega construction projects in Kish Island for identifying the major problems to decrease demand for foreign workers. The method of collecting data is conducted by distributing questionnaires and interviewing several foreign and local construction workers as well as the project managers of five mega projects in Kish Island including Mica mall, Basak, Persian, Damoon and Sarina mall. All data is analysed by SPSS and Excell softwares. About 52 factors affecting productivity were identified. After the context validity test of 52 factors, 52 questions were organized into five major groups consist of: (1) Economical, (2) Social and cultural, (3) Individual, (4) Technical, (5) Organizational, Environmental and Legal. Based on the quantified relative importance index, the ten most important factors, ten less important factors and three most important categories affecting productivity were identified. The results and findings could be effectively used to develop a training program to improve and promote Iranian workforce productivity in construction industry in comparable with foreign workforce. It is hoped that the final results contribute to the decrease in the demand for foreign workers and the skills incompetence in construction sector
