- Abstract:
- To answer the explanabilty of consciousness, we have first clarified the terms “consciousness”, “explanation”, and “physic”, concluding that consciousness and physics should be integrated in a single unified explanatory system. The common problem we have targeted in this work is “direct observation”. Then, inspired by Bergson, we have suggested that ,in direct observation, there is a unity between observer and the observed, out of which the qualitative characteristic of experience or qualia is constructed. Following computer graphic courses, this unity is called “rendering unity”. In the next scientific step, by analyzing the Wigner’s friend paradox, we have stipulated that, in direct observation, the wave functions of the objective system and the corresponding mental state of the observer should be entangled. Accordingly, we introduced the entangled relation of the observer and the observed relation (OOER) in direct observation which can be a scientific representation of Bergsonian rendering unity. For clarifying this relation, we have revised the principles of quantum mechanics and proposed the Whole-manifesting Approach (WMA). In WMA, the first claim is that the superposition of the states is a holistic relation and then mind, in the OOER relation, applies the mental basis and finally, in the collapse, the whole reality is emerged and not reduced based on just one of these basis. Collapse can be explained based on a stochastic cognitive process. Out of this cognitive reduction, a mental property gets a definite value and subsequently, the rendering unity occurs. Finally, we have proposed a re-unification model: introspective consciousness emerges out of a re-unification. This model is compatible with decoherence theory and Orch OR as two well-known consciousness models. In sum, the re-unification model equipped by rendering unity, OOER, and WMA, can be a holistic explanatory approach for scientific and conceptual studies around consciousness, though needs more work to clarify its concepts and relations
