  7. Abstract:
  8. This study tries to introduce chemical coatings to reducing evaporation from Lake Urmia(LU). In LU, average annual evaporation is estimated at more than 1,000 mm, more than 80% of evaporation occurring in the warmer months of the year. Therefore, by reducing water evaporation, especially in the warmer months of the year, the most crucial factor in water outflow from LU can be reduced. At first, on the scale of class A evaporation pan in Tehran, three kinds of chemical coatings constituted stearic acid, jojoba oil, and fatty alcohols of style and stearyl to reduce evaporation from the LU is investigated. Then the best coating that includes combine of style and stearyl alcohols with stearic acid that creates six molecular layers is selected and investigated in the climate condition of the LU in the warm season of the year in class A evaporation pan Scale and pool scale(9*15)m. On the pool scale, increasing the number of evaporating reducing layers by increasing the surface has been investigated, which shows that increasing the number of layers will not reduce further evaporation.According to the results, the highest decrease in evaporation on a pan scale in Tehran is 38.5%, and in LU climatic conditions is 17.5%, the results of a larger scale show a 22% decrease in evaporation. This study says that if these chemical coatings are used continuously, the water quality indicators such as transparency and pH will not change significantly, and only the surface temperature will increase slightly. The experiments performed on the effect of chemical coatings on the physical characteristics of Artemia show that the coatings on these aquatic animals are non-toxic in a short time
