- Abstract:
- Nowadays, the brain drain problem has become a challenge for countries of origin (COO) and a blessing for countries hosting student migrants. This issue has been studied in many domestic and international types of research. These studies' results can lead to the ability to identify the causes and discover methods to solve this problem. For several decades, the human capital flight has been one of the most challenging educational-economic-social problems in Iran and has grown significantly in recent years. The waste of the country's resources, the ineffectiveness of the education provided to students to improve the country's condition and its construction, the social and psychological consequences for immigrants, and other undesirable consequences of the human capital flight phenomenon, highlight the need to investigate this problem more than before. It appears in advance. In the current study, we study Iranian students' behavior in relation to the phenomenon of student migration. In this research, the main factors of student migration are identified using existing articles and researches and interviews with immigrant students, and broken down into thirteen main indicators that are as follows: social and political problems, prestige, job and profession, lifestyle, structural problems, self-discovery and science flourishing, respect and valuation, economic problems, ease of admission, family problems, network, patriotism, and personal problems. Clustering of the students under study was conducted according to the score they gave to the mentioned indicators, and six distinct clusters were obtained, which are as follows: prestige seeker, dissatisfied patriot, perfectionist, satisfied patriot, easy-going, and fugitive from the homeland. Finally, we described each cluster based on its characteristics and made suggestions individually to reduce the migration rate
