- Abstract:
- Environmental destructive effects of gases caused by combustion of sulfur compounds in the fuel, poisoning of catalysts, corrosion of equipment, as well as intensification of environmental considerations and new standards adopted for maximum sulfur content has made the desulfurization of fuels important; The desulfurization method using hydrogen has a high potential to remove sulfur. One of the major challenges in this process is to find the proper catalyst that has the best performance for this process. Ni (or Co) Mo (or W)/ γ-Al2O3 catalysts have high potential for using as a catalyst for the desulfurization process from a variety of large-scale or industrial hydrocarbon cuts. According to the lightness or heaviness of the hydrocarbon cut, modification of the base of Ni (or Co) Mo (or W)/ γ-Al2O3 catalyst for deep desulfurization is inevitable. One of the solutions that can greatly improve the structural properties of catalyst is the use of X and Y zeolites (from the faujasite family).By these interpretations, in this research, hydrodesulfurization process and fabricated catalysts have been studied while collecting relevant scientific reports and reviewing studies. In the experimental part of the research, the modification and de-aluminumization of zeolites has been conducted in different methods. In the next step, several types of zeolite-alumina bases were synthesized, then, nickel and molybdenum metal salts were performed on the bases made by impregnation method. Then NH3-TPD, H2-TPR, EDX Dot-Mapping, BET, FESEM, FTIR, AAS, XRD analyzes were used to investigate the physicochemical properties of zeolite and fabricated catalysts. Then their catalytic behaviors are studied and evaluated with a commercial sample and the effect of adding zeolites on the performance of catalysts in the process of hydrodesulfurization of diesel. The results showed that the use of zeolites has a significant effect on the coking rate of catalyst as well as the removal of sulfur and aromatic compounds compared to commercial catalysts
