- Abstract:
- In this research, synthesis and characterization of photocatalytic properties of g-C3N4 / TiO2 nanocomposite was carried out. The target of research was to increase the photocatalytic properties of g-C3N4. So at first, g-C3N4 was synthesized from melamine precursor via thermal pyrolysis. Then, TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized via sol – gel method. g-C3N4 / TiO2 nanocomposite with heterojunction structure was synthesized in one step by thermal pyrolysis of certain amounts of melamine precursor and TiO2 nanoparticles mixture in 550 ℃. Characterization of synthesized samples was carried out by XRD, FT-IR, UV-Vis, PL, BET, DLS and FE-SEM tests. Characterization results showed that g-C3N4, TiO2 nanoparticles and g-C3N4 / TiO2 nanocomposite synthesis has been successful. Photocatalytic properties of synthesized samples were carried out by photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests. Results of these two tests showed that g-C3N4 / TiO2 (3.82%) sample performance is 2.54 and 13.09 times more than pure g-C3N4 respectively. Then, to increase the photocatalytic properties of synthesized nanocomposites, three samples with the best photocatalytic properties were synthesized based on nanosheet carbon nitride. Characterization results showed that synthesis of nanocomposites based on nanosheet carbon nitride and reduction of thickness of carbon nitride sheets were successful. Results of photoelectrochemical water splitting test showed that nanosheet C3N4 / TiO2 (3.69%) sample produced current density is 26.68 times more than pure g-C3N4 and photocatalytic properties of nanocomposites based on nanosheet carbon nitride has a significant increase compared to similar samples based on graphitic carbon nitride. The conclusion of this research is that the photocatalytic properties of g-C3N4 are increased by formation of heterojunction structure with TiO2 nanoparticles and thermal exfoliation increases the specific area of g-C3N4 by reduction of thickness of its sheets
