  7. Abstract:
  8. In this thesis a digital electronic readout system is designed and constructed for MWPC detector. This detector is aimed to be used in ILSF synchrotron. The detector readout system is based on delay line and position of incoming photon can be underestood from delay of cathode signals arrivals. The detector has two dimentional position detecting system and the instruments used in every dimention are identical. Every dimention has a start and stop signal, the time difference between these two signals can be detected by time to amplitude converter or time to digital converter. In this thesis time to digital converter has been used and the time diference of start and stop signals arrivals is converted to digital and stored in a FIFO memory and with the aid of a microprocessor these positions will be sent to desktop software to show the patern of coming X ray photons. The advantage of this thesis over any other similar thesis is that we have designed a list mode calibration system that calibrates the whole readout system in offline before it can be used. In this calibration system we store all of arrived X and Ys in two arrays and we will construct several two dimentional arrays out of these arrays and also several patterns of incominf photon. After calibration a resolving time will be realised this time difference indicates the delay of cathode signals arrivals for every dimention. In routin use mode this resolving time will be used to make a sharper pattern. The most important part of this readout system is FPGA that includes several modules in it. FPGA modules has been written in Verilog hardware description languge and tested with a testbench in Modelsim simulation software. Finaly the system is working properly with a position resolution of 40 mµ in 10cm detector wide and it has a count rate of 105 counts per second
