Fabrication of Superhydrophobic Coating to Reduce Drag force with Anti-Corrosion and Anti-biofouling Properties

- Growth of the fuel consumption in the world and the greenhouse effect of its pollution get industrial managers and environmental activities attention. Skin drag force has a significant role in energy uses. The drag reduction property of superhydrophobic surfaces shows a new approach for investigators to reduce energy uses. Surface with 150° contact angle called superhydrophobic surface.In this project, a superhydrophobic coating is developed based on acrylic hydroxyl resin by silica nanoparticles. This coating can be sprayed on any surface. Using the Iron oxid particles and silica nanoparticles together produces hierarchical micro-nano structures. This coating has a 160.1° contact angle on an aluminum surface.All tests were performed on a 5000 aluminum alloys substrate. The coating has 700 hours of resistance under salt spray test. The 1000 hours UV test shows no color change for fabricated coating. Corrosion current is improved for superhydrophobic coating in the polarization test. The durability of coating for various PH is examined. The coating keeps its superhydrophobicity for 1 to 10 PH, but sodium hydroxide changes the surface to hydrophobic. The coating shows good durability for ten days immersing in water, but its performance for 3.5%wt saltwater drops to hydrophobic region. The 30×45cm plate is tested for skin drag force analysis. The results show a 43% reduction for drag coefficient compares to the bare aluminum plate at 100817 Reynolds number. The reduction is dropping by 12% at 252044 Reynolds number
