  7. Abstract:
  8. The water crisis caused by climate change and anthropogenic activities in Iran has affected the daily lives of the people, and since the agricultural sector has a large share of water consumption, greenhouse cultivation and indoor farming has been developing in this country, to improve water productivity. Considering that the main source of energy supply in greenhouses is fossil fuels, in this work, the possibility of improving Industrial Symbiosis (IS) between greenhouses and waste heat sources in industries by employing the Organic Rankin Cycle (ORC) has been studied, in order to meet the heating demand of greenhouses in a more sustainable and eco-friendly way.Based on that, by modeling the ORC system and estimation of the greenhouse heating demand, the possibility of simultaneous utilization of waste heat to generate electricity and meet the heat demand of greenhouse in different configurations is investigated, and a framework for evaluating the possibility of improving this Energy-Based Industrial Symbiosis by ORC is presented. The results show that the entry of this technology into IS with the right choice of working fluid, capacity, and configuration in most cases will lead to economic justification of IS establishment and reduce the payback period to less than 5 years. In addition, the results show that, in most studied cases, at prices of more than15 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity, the entry of ORC into the IS leads to improve its economic profitability. Accordingly, in this study, the possibility of developing and improving Symbiotic relationships by applying efficient technologies has been concluded.
