  7. Abstract:
  8. One of the research areas less-addresses in the field of strategy – especially with a process approach – is strategic renewal. Strategic renewal is crucial for sustainable success of an organization. However, there are limited studies focused on strategic renewal, its implementation, and factors affecting its successive success. Process view is also less applied despite its importance both in understanding different steps of renewal and determining motivators and impediments. Therefore, this study tries to do a process-oriented research on strategic renewal, considering the gaps in extant process models on renewal. For this aim, an embedded single case study is applied and some successful strategic renewals in an organization, with considerable background in growth and profitability for about two decades, are examined deeply. To collect data on these renewals, deep reading of archival data and directing semi-structured interviews are used. Then, all the collected data have been transcribed, coded, and analyzed through theme analysis. The results of the study demonstrates that to implement a strategic renewal in business scope successfully, other renewals in some characteristics of the organization must be occurred. The process of these renewals are the same as the one of the target renewal. These renewals could be triggered from different sub-processes of the target renewal, depending on being either planned or unplanned. Among the key elements of an organization, structure has a leveraging role in facilitating and accelerating the renewal implementation. Moreover, the successive success of strategic renewals could be examined through applying a renewal formula based on the core capabilities of an organization in the fields of structure, systems, and human resource, besides renewal routines and typical structures.
