  4. Abstract:
  5. A study was carried out to evaluate postural sway behavior and other dynamic responses in young and elderly male adults during stance and when stance is perturbed. Compared to young adults, healthy elderly subjects with no apparent muscoloskeletal or neurological impairment had significant differences in postural control kinematics. Young-elderly differences were particularly marked in upper body motion. The results distinguished a consistent trend of increased use of trunk motion for maintenance of balance by the elderly, particularly in the imposed disturbance tasks
