  7. Abstract:
  8. Clopidogrel, as an antiplatelet medicine, is currently one of the most widely used medicines to reduce the risk of stroke and prevent the formation of blood clots for heart patients all over the world. This medicine is still produced using the conventional approach of drug production, i.e. batch method. On the other hand, due to the many advantages of flow chemistry, such as increasing the rate of mass and heat transfer, increasing safety, performance, etc., the production of medicines using the flow approach has been highly regarded by large pharmaceutical companies in recent years. In this research, the production of clopidogrel was done using a continuous flow approach and different microreactors. For this purpose, different designs of new micromixers and microreactors were investigated using computational fluid dynamics and COMSOL software. Next, micromixers and microreactors that showed better relative performance according to the mixing index were made using glass and laser engraving methods. To compare the results of continuous and batch systems and to determine the optimal microreactor, the synthesis of clopidogrel was carried out continuously in the built microreactors at three levels of residence time including 25, 45, and 65 minutes. Finally, it was found that microreactor A shows better performance compared to other microreactors in all residence times. The use of microreactor A and the residence time of 65 minutes led to a yield of 33.93%, while the use of a batch system with the same time only resulted in a yield of 8.6%. By comparing the results obtained in continuous and batch systems, it can be concluded that the continuous approach for the production of clopidogrel achieves much better performance compared to the batch approach under the same conditions, and it leads to achieving good results in a shorter time
