  7. Abstract:
  8. The integrated battery charger (IBC), made from the combination of a battery charger and the traction propulsion system of EVs is an emerging concept that can save the volume and final cost of battery chargers. As a type of on-board EV battery charger, IBC topology must work with expected performance in two modes of operation separately, charging mode and propulsion mode. In this thesis, to propose new topologies of IBCs, firstly the previous studies relevant to EV battery chargers and their different types have been reviewed. By analysis and investigation of IBC topologies, the principles of integrating battery chargers have been inferred and presented. These principles help us to evaluate the ideas of integration of chargers in an individual frame. Nextly, a typical battery charger topology has been chosen. Considering the integrating battery charger principles, the structure of the chosen charger is developed based on different types of traction propulsion motors. As a result, several IBC topologies have been introduced. Finally, an innovative IBC topology based on a three-phase induction motor has been proposed. The proposed charger can work in the V2G mode and discharge the vehicle battery and inject power into the grid whenever required. All proposed IBCs have been verified by computer simulations, and the one integrated with induction motor is implemented experimentally
